I have to admit that I don't think there has ever been a celebration like that in Canada.

If the US ever wins this tournament it might not even be mentioned on ESPN.

There's no sporting even that would get that kind of national reception in America. Local sports teams in their cities yes, but nothing national.

Well, it is a mystery to me given these harsh facts of pro sports culture in the U.S. how guys like Matthews can emerge from the barren dust of Arizona desert? Well, he might be a freak exception or just not a native of that locality (don't know/recall the specifics in the case). But yeah, they have some hockey also in Florida, I reckon. Not only around Ann Arbor or something there. :D. -And sorry OT. -Proceed.

hahaha!!

Even though I don't like Stefan Löfven one bit, I think its important that the elected prime minister is there to show his support.

Everything is fine and well again in the Folkshemmet. Nice to see and hear. After some not so nice news a while back.

Yes me too. And I also like that he got booed and that the players didn't look ecstatic to meet him. He's supposed to be the boring guy, like a principle or something, he should be apolitically booed at a sporting event is what I think.

Very cool. Grats to Sweden...home of one of the greatest tennis players of all time----though Mr. Federer reigns supreme. :)

Seriously, mucho grats!

Would be about 1% interest in the USA (if that) and almost zero on the television networks. A tad bit more maybe on social media.

In Canada people are mostly "meh" the tournament (even when we won the last 2) and such a win would not garner the attention (parade and civic gathering) and media coverage that you see in Sweden. That is phenomenal!

Wow thounsands of People showed up in sthlm today and nylander got the biggest cheers

Can I just say, this is great. The WHC means so much more to Sweden and their fans. Canada would have had 100 people at the airport and nothing else.

I just heard the other day that a Björn Borg movie will come out this autumn. Thought you might enjoy that.

The kid from Transformers, Shia Lebouf or something, will play McEnroe.

Just wanted to bring you the good news, although off topic haha

Only applies to the World's, but I feel better when European teams win. Obviously they care a ton more than US/Canada fans about this tournament.

Don't be fooled Canadians care about this tournament

They pretend they don't but they do

I am Canadian and I it means lot when we win it believe me

TSN telecast every game on tv

Well you keep believing that. Here in TO I didn't see a lot of people skipping work early or packing in the bars specifically to see the hockey. Sure it was on tv but so is high school hockey as well. It's a great tournament for sure but does not have anywhere near the notoriety and prominence with hockey fans over here!

Eh I disagree. It's all about the Stanley Cup playoffs here

then Olympics and finally distant 3rd.. WJC U20

WC really doesn't gain any traction

Why are they wearing different jerseys plastered with ugly ads all of a sudden? Are they not allowed to wear the official Nikes outside of an arena? It's just a celebration, we Europeans need to think more about the importance of branding.

Finnish news had the answer today: the real jerseys had been backed too inaccessibly and they couldn't get them out in time, so they had to loan the junior NT jerseys, which is why they were having wrong numbers on them.

But apparently "they had the correct ads and so on" was a factor in the jersey choice. Obviously it would be bad form to deny the sponsors the visibility in the event when they'd get associated with all the positive feelings the audience has now.

Packed "too inaccessibly"?! Don't fix it if it ain't broken:

(Then again, the excuse sounds absurd; maybe the jerseys were rather too accessible on the boisterous flight to Stockholm and someone poured something on something hah.)

What??

I'm Canadian and I was cheering like crazy for Sweden just because I wanted Nylander to get tournament MVP

The translation from Finnish was mine and crappy; apparently the jerseys were packed "too deep" or (what I gather) underneath all other stuff. So, inaccessibly.

Of all the shameful things I do, I consider carrying my fire wood in in one of those blue IKEA bags the most shameful. Despite it being sturdy and of perfectly correct size, it really ruins the timelessless of the experience of felling forest for family's warmth.

And, as long as no one there gets incapacitating "ankle infection" or air-cranks down the airplane stairs with the Cup, consider us people in glass house.

Oh you fell your fire place wood and carry them home from some Finnish deep spruce forest (and then chop the logs), cool. :amazed: The IKEA bag is a great practical and versatile invention but it surely can spoil the authentic atmosphere in the woods, hah.

And sorry OT, folks. Keep "cellying" the gold.

P.S: I didn't quite get the joke of the last sentence; "---consider us people in glass house"...?! But it sounds quite funny, too bad I have an acute problem in my reading comprehension faculties. :help:
