I'm still abit salty that A. Boqvist wasn't selected. I think the Swedish staff as always took the safe bet instead of adding some flair to the squad.

The squad already has three puck moving D in Liljegren, Dahlin and Brännström, I understand the choice with the other three.

There is only so much puck that you can move. And then there are the forwards. And opponents.

This was what I was thinking. The top end of that '93 team was ridiculously good, but I'm pretty sure the case to be made is about depth and particularly goaltending.
I'd put the 2005 Canada team against anyone, although that team had a bunch of players that would be NHL if there was no lockout.

Sweden's biggest hockey podcast (NHL-timmen) ranked the Swedish team #4 and I think I agree. Sweden is a contender no doubt, but the team probably gets a bit overrated because people don't look that much beyond the top names on this team. Finland this year is arguably equal in top end talent and seems to have better depth.

Maybe, I think we might get a bit excited thinking about Elias Pettersson and Rasmus Dahlin, it's hard not to, right? However the depth on D is definetely there. A guy like Linus Högberg, who is hardly even mentioned in this thread has been stellar for Växjö this year having played over 20 minutes the last three games before the WJC.

How did they rank the top 3?

Was gonna watch the game.. but if Liljegren isn't even playing and Dahlin is on bottom pair, it'll probably be one that frustration over lines overtakes the enjoyment

Those lines are not in order. It's just an exhibition game, expect them to spread the ice time as much as possible between the lines/pairs.

Ah ok, didn't know you could carry more than the 12F/6D in WJC or at least exhibition. Hopefully that means Liljegren roves through all pairs to see Dahlin-Liljegren :D

Does this mean Dahlin is back on LD?

I'm never really worried about the Swedish depth even if it's not as strong as other teams depth. Role players for Swedish teams at WJC pretty much always deliver the goods. Sweden goes as far as the top guys do, D is stellar, high end skill players are there. If they deliver, I believe Sweden is as strong as the rest of the teams. I do think there's no clear cut favorite this year though, should be an exciting tournament =)

Finland does look good though, imagine them being one game from not being allowed to play in this years tournament :O That would have been surreal.
Cant wait to see Olli Juolevi play this year.
