Bold take, Russia beats Sweden as well.

Hopefully. We need to lose Badly and realise that it is time to change the way swedish hockey is ran. Can't just go on about that darn win streak when we collapse under pressure as soon as we enter the playoffs Every. Single. Year.
The talent and potential is there, but there is a fundamentally flawed system in place.

Looks like Canada's coach was right. Sweden looked soft as hell. Game would have been 5-0 if it weren't for Ingram letting in 2 softies.

They are lacking at forward, for sure.

You could take their best D-men and put them up against the best D from all other countries combined and they'd match them, however.

Eh, Karlsson sure, but beyond him?

I still take Canada's defensive depth over Sweden's.

Over the years, I have never counted on consistent officiating in IIHF tourneys. I am not referring to the difference between the NHL and international rulebooks.
I just think hockey in general is harder to officiate than it used to be. The speed and pace is always ratcheted up.
Of you watch NHL a lot, you see much the same in WTF moments.

You are probably right. I don't follow my local team here in Sweden and since I have a daytime job I only watch like 20 games of NHL per season. Other than that it's mostly international tournaments.

But can't remember NHL or any other big international tournament making so many wrong calls. I guess it could be a mix of me seeing the WJC as the absolute highlight of the year (biased) and not having the best refs because it's a WJC and not WC/Olympics/Canada Cup/Stanley Cup.

I actually thought we would be able to beat Canada this time but pre-game the swedish coach said they hadn't talked about the physical game as an issue and then you knew he jinxed it.

Canada smashed us physically and were the better team over the whole ice tonight. Really an outstanding performance by them if you compare to earlier games. Only Nylander, Sandström and maybe one-two more players on an acceptable level for Sweden tonight.

Still - it's so hard to accept these refs. A lot in here about "goes both ways" but I think that just make it worse. Two wrongs don't make a right for me. I don't mind if there were Canadian refs as long as they are better than this. C'mon it's an international semi-final and I don't want the entertainment ruined.

Well at least one good thing from this tournament to bring home to Sweden - the decreasing attendance in Canada should probably make it easier to get the WJC in Europe more frequently. And maybe then we could beat Canada/USA in the playoffs...

I'm actually wondering if the officiating got in Swedens head because they COMPLETELY unraveled.

US might as well hand the gold to Canada if this is the type of officiating expected for tomorrow.

Well that sucks :(

How does Juulsen career looks like in your crystal ball ?

He should be ok.Not going to be counted on to carry offence.Big body who can hit and great first tape to tape pass.Chabot is not no shutdown guy.Best players in NHL would tear him .

Like I said before, stop living in the past. None of that has anything to do with how awesome USA hockey is today and how much awesomer it's going to get in the future.

So if we win tomorrow, are you going to just use the same excuse of stop living in the past?

The World Cup was 3 months ago  What players have magically popped up in the last 3 months that change your fortune?

What's great about the future is that anything is possible.

Just like Canada continuing to dominate best on best.

As overrated as OEL is in some places, he's still a stud. And judging from "beyond him", as overrated as OEL is, Hedman is even more underrated. Karlsson and Hedman could easily be the top 2 in the world.

Sure, if Canada's top 4 or 5 best defencemen retired.

Who makes excuses a full 24 hours before the game is on?

Probably yes. With our choking history against Canada in playoffs and especially in North America. And Canadian players a little more used to physical, direct play and use of cheap tricks/do whatever you need to get a win I think it's likely that bad refs gets under the skin of our swedish players even if it's bad refs both ways. That's pretty clear if you look into the history, especially in the WJC I would say.
