Kings Article: Sutter Issues Challenge To LA Kings Center Prospect Nick Shore

Shore is not a veteran, he hasn't built up any leeway in this league.

Any coach would have said the same thing Sutter just challenged Shore with.

I'm fine with Sutter issuing a challenge to Shore. The kid will probably take it to heart and work even harder to get his first goal.

I'm sure Sutter has asked Kopitar to try and register more than one shot a game on goal as well.

The Kings can't continue to get zero production from their bottom six Centers. They are in the middle of a playoff dogfight.

Sutter is doing his job.

Yep, nothing wrong with it. usual Sutter bite, kid knows he's not getting any leeway just because he's a rookie, we need the points and can't afford passengers.

At the same time Shore is doing well to fit in imo. Makes lots of smart plays, his defensive positioning is beyond reproach and he's a big reason Clifford and Nolan are so effective/not liabilities. If the production follows, he's a stud in his role.

Exactly. When Nick Shore got called up I asked for people's take on him in the Manchester thread. There were a lot of great responses. Frankly, I expected him to get a quick cup of coffee and then be sent back down to take what he learned and work on it in Manchester, similar to what happened with Pearson and Toffoli. But Shore has done the #1 thing Sutter wants from his players, to be defensively responsible. He hasn't scored yet...still waiting...but I'm really impressed by the chemistry shown by the 4th line. I never understood the value of "energy" to a team, except for giving the top lines time to rest, so seeing Clifford and Nolan flourish and give us some goals has been a real treat. I think that Shore is the best fit for centering the 4th line of any center on the team.

So assuming we make the playoffs, where does Richards go? Can he play wing?

Also, I like that Coach Sutter is stingy with his praise of rookies. The kids put enough pressure on themselves without having the pressure of expectations from early success and getting too much praise too early. At the same time, they need to know that they are expected to make the team better if they want to stay in the line-up. It was either Davis Payne or John Stevens who said in the Stanley Cup video that the Manchester kids were expected to contribute.

Anyway, Nick has a good head on his shoulders and I think he made the staff keep him here. I don't see him going back to Manchester any time soon, though with the paper recall on Monday, they have that option for the playoffs.

Gann
, thanks for the article and the audio.

Stop the presses, he's having the same problems that Richards had. He's playing with Clifford and Nolan.

The same Clifford and Nolan than have 4 goals in the last 10 games on the 4th line? They aren't holding anyone back
