peverly has a NTC where he can submit a 15 team list or something like that. Out of 15 teams or half the NHL, I somehow doubt Edmonton makes the list. Besides, Peverly is one of the most useful players around, he plays all forward positions, is good at faceoffs, kills penalties and can play point on the PP. He's tough to replace. He fills holes when players get injured.
peverly does that correct... but he is also being paid over 3 mill a year and I hope you are not saying you want him in our top 6. If you look at how much money we have committed next year before we resign rask and even without resigning Horton you will see we are in a lot of cap trouble. Does it make any sense to be spending 6 mill on peverly/Kelly on the third line when we will unquestionably loose Horton and need to replace him with someone like soderberg or spooner or maybe peverly if the cap issue continues on unresolved?
I think maybe I heard james murphy being interviewed on either a Toronto or an Edmonton sports show mentioning that peverly is being shopped... and maybe I heard it from maclean or someone on hockey central too? I wish I could remember specifically, but a couple times In the past few days ive heard that peverly is being shopped.
useful players do get shopped sometimes too... cause useful players have value. you cant only shop crap and expect to get anything of value back.
remember that chiarelli is the guy that moved out mark stuart and blake wheeler to land peverly origionally at the deadline too. chiarelli made that move even though wheeler/stuart were useful players because he was trying to control the cap and was looking to fill a particular role on the team here. the deal was made with a view not only for that one playoff run but also for the next year too.
I wouldn't say that I personally expect peverly to be moved for a rental... cause that wouldn't make a lot of sense... but if peverly is a surplus third liner that we cant afford and we need a top 6 forward next year than peverly could easily make sense as being the guy flipped for the missing top 6 guy.
hemsky represents a potential top 6 guy to replace Horton. soderberg would slot in better as a third line guy until he proves himself...
a lineup next year that had seguin/Bergeron/marchand and hemsky/krecji/lucic as the top 2 lines and then a third line based around Kelly and one of spooner/soderberg and than someone else affordable starts to look like a lineup that has more potential to succeed than one that is missing hemsky and has peverly on the third line making over 3 million dollars.
I think that we will soon see boychucks name in a trade too cause he is another guy that is useful but is making too much money for the amount of useful that he actually delivers.
in fact... I personally would say Kelly/peverly/boychuck should all be moved if we can get back the right 2 guys to replace the 10 million cap room that could be cleared moving these guys out. A legit top 6 forward and a legit top 3 dman could be had for the same money and deliver more value to us.
