everyone, try to stay classy...

It would have been nice to parlay this further.
We got KH as a freebie, and enjoyed value for his reasonable/cheap service.
Had we extended at the right $, it would have been a freebie asset returning, allowing for easier repurposing of guys like Lias, Strome.
Unfortunately, Hayes can command what he did, which is too much $ for premium 3rd line pivot and pushing it for 2nd line C.
I had hoped he would do a shade over 6 for 5 years, have a final contract opportunity, and when he retires, he could redeem his goodwill chits with Rangers front office for a cushy gig. However, he got better $ and term upfront.
Grateful for his time here.
Time for us to move on...
The long term ramifications of this include that there is one less depth guy at pivot.
If we can repurpose various assets for position of need, e.g., draft a Seider later on or a more primo talent earlier, do we still do that?
I say yes, the draft is the better opportunity timewise to get ahead of the curve.
Once we are post draft, focus is properly on the upcoming season, and decisions are more likely league wide to be focused on win now than futures. Also, acquiring picks now enhances our flexibility as to who we prefer to select from who is available [as opposed to dealing with a team later, when they may be a match for a guy we'd have to trade, but not a match for a guy we want/prefer.
Thankfully Morgan Baron is looking good, even if he is at least 2-3 projected yrs away.
The immediate consequence of this is if there is enough profit for Lias, Strome, Namest who we wanna move anyway and now, maybe Howden, that means if Howden goes Chytil has to take over 3C
I consider this a subplot to the upcoming draft.
comments are welcome, particularly but not necessarily exclusively in that context...

congrats to KH.
Thanks for all you did in NY, and for giving Rangers first dibs on your services.
Sorry that presumably due to $ and cap world reality, a return paralleling Chapman back to the Yankees was not to be.
As long as it doesn't hurt Rangers, best with your career.
