Logo appropriation is definitely big in the smaller leagues, especially with local kid's baseball teamsNot strange, but not even an attempt to be different
A slight rotation, and voila! The Binghamton Whalers

This one always stood out to me. Shameless rip-off of the Leafs logo.
What's so Petroleum about it? That's a griffin not an oil drop.
From what I understand you are correct though. The logo, which was developed for the 81/82 season, was inspired by the Oilers logo. Before that they used a rose.

The rose logo was also used in a retro uniform during a few games of the 09/10 season but after four straight losses they decided to stop using it

St Petersburg in the KHL uses the Rangers jersey templates on at least 1 or 2 jerseys if I'm not mistaken, but it's pretty cool
Nice find. The Oilers logo is pretty distinctive, so I'd say it's pretty certain it was the inspiration for the current logo. It's just strange to me seeing it in green having known the Edmonton crest all my life.

Don't forget Streatham Redskins; Was originally looking at a different team in this league, but stumbled on these ones.

On a serious note, how is it that these small leagues/teams can get away with this? I mean it's obvious if the NHL or the organization wanted to go after them, they wouldn't get much, but you would think they would want to protect their brand somehow. Or is it because these guys are so small time that the league doesn't bother even if for no reason other than to send a message?
