Hey guys, boy it suck when you work late, what a day by ottawa! Very happy with Ryan and Cmac!

Anyways just by reading the forums not many people mentioned Stones name! Does anyone think Stone will make the team? Possibly as the 3rd liner, I would much rather have him there than condra, then he can work his way into the top 6.

Michalek-Spezza-Ryan

Conacher-Turris-Zibanejad

Macarthur-Pageau-Stone

Greening-Smith-Neil

Karlsson Methot

Cowen Wiercoich

Phillips Gryba

Craig

Lehner

Lineup balanced with skill, grit, scoring, speed and toughness on every line! Does anyone think Stone makes it, With Silf gone this really opens the door for Stone.
No offense to Condra but I only see him as an energy guy anyways

I have said this before, and I still believe Stone is the best piece of trade bait we own. He does not fit well into Mac's high speed 200' possession system, and other teams would value his potential.

I think Hoffman has as good a shot as stone if that spot stays open. I'm also hoping Prince has an outside chance, he probably needs another year or two though.

What's so funny? Hoffman in his couple of games with the Sens looks miles better than Conacher ever did while playing for us.

Yup that sample size should do it. This year when Conacher settles in you'll see why he was in the ROTY race all year.

Hoffman will play some significant number of games with the Sens this year, Prince is close probably another year. Stone I just don't see it his ability to compete at such a high speed ??? IMHO.

Riding shotgun with Stamkos and St. Louis. He was practically useless when he was traded to us. I was not seeing the speed and grit and the hustle he was suppose to bring..

He played mostly with Lecavalier and Purcell. He was a rookie who started the year with one coach in Syracuse, went to Tampa and played for Boucher, then played for his old coach again, then got traded to a new team. Do you think as a rookie by the end of the year he was a wee bit lost !!!!! You don't lose speed and skill at 23 years old. After development camp and regular camp I'm sure he settle down and start playing much better. To be honest with you I can't believe how people are not giving this kid a fair chance. :shakehead

Conacher is being so underrated on this board. Just like how Turris was before playoffs.

It was half and half for him. First half, he was with Stamkos, where he looked like a calder type player, then with Lecavaliar he did nothing. When he was traded to us, I can't recall a single moment where he showed any brilliance of skill. Maclean Benched him a couple of time and showed very little faith in him.

I just don't see how he should be penciled in as a second line winger ahead of Greening, Zibby(if he plays wing) and MacArthur, given the fact that their is only 2 spots open for top 6, with Ryan and Michalek being their by default.

Further more, he is not a 3rd or a 4th line player by any means. We have better players in abundance for that particular role.

Stone will make the team or get a shot . Even if he doesnt look great in camp i suggest his size and strength will earn him a shot. Yes Conacher is by far the most underrated player we have the only reason we got him is because the lightning have plenty of small forwards in there wings . I believe it was Gary Roberts or someone older hockey player with some pedigree who said that Cory Conacher is one of the most natural goal scorers hes ever seen . Hes by far the most proven of are young guys too.

I keep hoping to see Stone in a package for a top four dman or a top six forward. I'd love to move him before he loses all his value. I've never believed he could compete at an NHL level. I may yet be proven wrong but I doubt it.

Except that Murray, Spezza and others have all talked very highly of him and how they see him as a guy to pair with Spezza. He fits into our system just fine.

Though I will agree, he is great trade bait but I'd hate to see him go. He's gonna be a beast.

First off get your facts straight, when he got all those points in the first 7 games he was on a line with Lacavalier and Purcell. He was solid after the quick start but the team was in turmoil and the coach fired. By the time he was traded to us he had played with dozens of different players. I know exactly what your saying and understand where your coming from, but, let him start fresh this year and you will see why Murray traded for him. If he doesn't pan out don't resign him, but you need to give him the opportunity early in the season.

PS. He's going to surprise !!!

Stone has shown he can be good and has taken hockey seriously . I remember first seeing him in brandon and he looked overweight and slow . Then one day he suddenly became the hulk lol he didnt light it up in the ahl but then again he played on a checking line most the season i believe .

I really don't understand all of the scrutiny against Conacher. Conacher was a rookie last year, yes he was inconsistent but most rookies are, Conacher has the upside of a natural goal scorer and a guy who can score 20-25 goals a year and get around 50 points. He ha great vision, mobility, quickness, hands and skill. Lets see him this year in a top 6 role and give him a fair evaluation. And we have to trust why Maclean benched him. Paul Maclean is one of the greatest coaches in the NHL by far, he did win coach of the year. Conacher played great for us in the playoffs, he scored 3 goals and showed brilliance at times. Look how we'll Jake Gardiner played for Toronto in the playoffs after being benched for almost the entire season and he is poised to break out. I am sure Maclean benched Conacher to make him work harder and maximize his potential. And with Maclean as our coach. There is no doubt in my mind he will get the best out of Cory, he is ready to break out.

And why on earth would Ottawa trade Stone. The guy has played in only 6 NHL Games including playoffs. We can't judge him based on that, Stone also broke his wrist this year and missed almost 2 months. But when he came back he was brilliant for the Bsens and was arguably there best player in the playoffs. And lets not forget this guy tore apart Junior the final 2 years of his career and dominated the World Juniors!!

Ottawa would be insane to trade him. This kid has a future give him a chance he's 21

Out of the rest of our prospects, I would be the least sad to give him up for a top 4 D.

I'm not sure where people saw that...

We have a ton of prospects, you're sure Stone would be the least you'd be sad to give up?

I am very confident that he cracks the roster out of training camp. Although I am not quite sure which line he will end up on. I was pretty confident that he was going to take over the RW spot on Spezza's line, but with the acquisition of Ryan, MacLean may have different plans. So if that is the case, he could line up beside Turris unless they convert Zibanejad to wing and feel the 2nd line RW spot is the best place for him. If the 1st and 2nd RW spots are taken by Ryan and Zibanejad, my guess is that Stone end up on the third line as a winger for Pageau.

Stone has gotten fairly underrated around here (at least relative to other Senators prospects). I think a lot of that is due to the fact very few fans watched his games in Binghamton in the second half of the season. He was nursing a rib injury in the first half of the season which really hampered his performance, in the second half (once full healed) he really started lighting it up and was a point per game player. His overall game vastly improved and he started to show the signs of being a dominant player.

Seeing him at the development camp, it looks like he has put on a fair amount of weight. At the start of last season he still looked thin, but now it looks like he has filled out and is easily one of the biggest players on the ice. I think the added size and strength will do wonders for his style of game.

IMO Stone is poised for a breakout year and should compete for the Calder this season.
