Proposal: STL - Flyers

No, what I'm saying is that 7 or 8 top-end, young d-men isn't anywhere close to 1/3 of the NHL. I think you're saying that's almost 1/3 of the NHL's #1 defensemen, rather than just defensemen in-general.

Problem is that there are a minimum of 6 defensemen in the NHL per team. So we just named about 8 top-end defensemen, and there's about 180 or so defensemen to pull from).

4% of d-men in the NHL then (based on the 7 or 8 we said, can double the number if you'd like) would be considered "top, young d-men" among the NHL's players. So yes, among all defensemen, those 8 or so that were said are in fact rare.
I see your point. I was going of "#1 defenseman". Went with the generic 30. Flawed argument but still...if were talking about #1s and potential #1s....near 10 of them being Young defenseman. I wouldnt classify that as being extremely rare. In the grand scheme of all defenseman...it would be rare

In most of Giroux's high productive years, the supporting cast is very similar.

Everyone is having a bad year. Everyone's PPG is down, with the exception of Jake, if I'm not mistaken. Giroux definitely needs to work on 5v5, there's no denying that. But when the whole team sucks, a playmaker is certain it going to suffer more on the score sheet.

except its not.

We have not really replaced the quality of Briere, Hartnell, Jagr (for his one year) at even strength.

Additionally our d has regressed too overall which kills our 5v5 transition play. There are a number of roster flaws we have.

Does not mean he is a grinder.. He is just good around the net.. The only thing he is good at. Knuble was a grinder.. No one can touch Simmonds around net net cause he will f you up.. LeCLair could take a beating. Schenn is none of those things plus he ain't **** on the boards too.
call it what you will, but Schenn doesn't score goal scorer goals routinely.

Hes a dirty goal scorer.

But, like I've said, the trend with Giroux is the past 3 seasons, not just this season.

I won't ( and honestly, can't) argue with that. I feel like Giroux is an elite center in the sense of FO, PP, and is above average defensively and on the PK. 5v5 is his weakness and I honestly feel - Giroux apologist aside- like a good portion of that is the fact that teams know our 2C only goal is to shut down their 1C.

So matchups are: our 1C against your 3c. Your 1C against our 2C. Your 2C runs rampant.

Since the flip trade this has looked much better, aesthetically. But I haven't followed te advanced stats to know if this IS true, to be honest.
