Parayko Fowler will win the Lady Bing.

I love it tho.

We didn’t get Suter to play top pairing and now we can protect Broberg a bit again. It’s a lot for Broberg to adjust to this first full season and brand new system. Very helpful to have a solid group around him so we can pick and choose opportunities for him to shine versus shoving everything on his plate every night. And there’s probably 0% chance Suter would hold up if we played him as much as we have for the rest of the year.

No reason to stress over 2nds when the guy has term and is bonafide. As long as we don’t break Fowler there would be a suitor as a playoff rental, if we can’t figure out winning, and you’re gonna get something around a 2nd back.

And it’s a win now trade - the room has to appreciate it.

Side note: Fowler plays his 1,000th game in 9 games.

That third pairing is a defensive train wreck.
I don't agree with that - Suter was completely reasonable at the beginning of the season and looked incredible for about two weeks with Parayko before his age/mileage clearly became a factor. I think if he can play a much lesser role against lower QoC he'll be fine. Suter/Peru will get fed offensive zone starts and sheltered competition and I think they will acquit themselves well.

I thought the Army presser was as expected. I would call it a responsible trade for the organization. If we are serious about making the playoffs, a move like this needed to happen. Getting Fowler doesn't really block anyone we care about moving forward. (Let's be honest, we gave PO/Peru/Kessel the better part of 30 games to show they could grab an NHL spot and all of them basically shrugged). Army didn't feel comfortable asking Suter to play 24+ minutes a night at 39, and couldn't accurately predict when Leddy was coming back. I love the fact that he brough up Actuarial Tables and I think he's right to remind everyone that a 2nd round pick in 2027 is easily recouped if we desired it.

I'm excited to see what Fowler brings, this team desperately needs more speed/skill on the backend, Faulk has been gifted loads of PP time with nothing to show for it, and Peru couldn't stick in the lineup due to our injuries not being able to cover for his 5v5 deficiencies.

If Leddy comes back and Broberg continues to grow and Fowler shows that he was more a product of the Anaheim disaster then a bad player, we might actually have a decent blueline for the first time in a couple years.

Dom from The Athletic doesn’t like it

(Sets fuse)….

That makes me even more optimistic about this move considering his track record

Being one of four teams he’d accept a trade to looks good on our organization, fwiw.

Not sure it means we were one of his four teams but I'm guessing Verbeek presented him with some options and this was one he was ok with. If he really wanted to be traded then he might have needed to go beyond the four teams on his list. That's what I'd guess anyway.

Bad outside of Parayko? Did you forget that Broberg exists?
no, and it's probably unfair to categorize him with the bad, but baby legs can't keep playing 21+ minutes a night either and this should help keep his minutes in check so he can thrive more

same with suter, this should reduce his usage and make him more useful as well. too many players on the d side trying to punch above their weight, and yeah there's been some bright spots for a stint, but there's plenty of bad to go with that good

Army stresses that part of the development process is giving the younger players the right environment to grow, and a key ingredient includes a competitive atmosphere where players learn how to play important games.

And Army wants to compete. He doesnt want to go bottom and build from there.

To me this is another nail in armys coffin.

I want Steen already in. Army doing shitty moves and burning picks --> future for nothing is mindblowing.

Its crazy that I miss guys like Walman, Dunn and Mikkola. Realively young and upside.

This team looks More and More shitty vet players graveyard.

Honestly couldn’t be less excited about this trade.

We make our D corps older and softer. Hooray…

I don’t see the upside here. Armstrong wants to compete but we are on a collision course with that 9th or 10th seed. This also doesn’t do anything to help our future. We still need to acquire a top 4 d-man who is actually young. Fowler isn’t the guy we need. Doesn’t really solve much, feels like a waste of time to even bring him in.

I've thought about this. If we go to the bottom, we may never get back up again. We got the kids coming up that we're stop-gapping for and Army knows we'll need to add to that to make this team a potential contender, which we can do once the big money contracts lapse and we move from this group to our new youth group when we can really build up.

If, and its of course a big if, the kids come in and rock like we think they will, then we're still a good 3=5 years outside of that before everything hits and syncs in gear.

I'd rather Army make deals like this that keeps the ship floating than blowing it all up and praying a massive amount of somethings go right maybe possibly in the near future. Right now we're middling and buying into a big contract only adds another handcuff to us while depriving us of assets to help our build.

Given the situation, this was a good move.
