Mark Lazerus of the Chicago Sun-Times did an interview on p70 of today's newspaper Wednesday, January 28, 2015.

The article was about recent play of the King's and the current slide and quest to make the playoffs. He states the Kings are in disarray losing seven of eight. I knew Mike Richards had been demoted, but was shocked when the article mentioned he cleared waivers. Lazerus does an interview with Blackhawk, Andrew Shaw and Chicago certainly has respect for the Kings. Tonight's contest means more for the Kings -- almost a measuring stick game where a win could create a turn around.

As dangerous as the Kings can be in the playoffs it would be a disappointment not to see a Stanley Cup Champion return to the playoffs. How do you Kings fans feel? Do you see a turn around coming where your GM adds a player at the trade deadline? I certainly don't see the Kings as sellers, but is that a possibility...

I think most Kings fans are still positive about their chances of making the playoffs, they're only a few points behind... The question is what they'll be able to do if they get in. I think they'll have a hard time making it out of the first round unless we see a fairly significant addition on the blueline. And if they don't make it out of the first round they might as well have been sellers instead of buyers and have the players rest all summer because it looks like they need it.

But with this team who knows.

The next 5-6 games coming up are going to be crucial. Its really going to determine how hungry these guys are and if we make the playoffs.

We do have some pieces we could move at the deadline to teams looking to beef up their lineup in the post season...

Sorry, you have a chance to defend a Stanley Cup, you don't take that lightly. You might not be able to upgrade, that all depends on the asking prices and what you can afford to sacrifice from the future without fully sacrificing the future, but you never sell. Ever.

I actually really liked that article.

And unless we completely tank, I think we're buyers, not sellers. DL is big on loyalty and giving this team a chance to do it again. It may be our last shot with some of the current veterans before we go for a younger retooling. If not, hey, it's been a great run that only Chicago and the Kings can say they've pulled off in the salary cap era.

I personally would rather see them sell UFAs that aren't gonna be re-signed than make a push for it and lose in the first round but that's me. I can certainly understand your point of view though.

Exactly. The rest of the boards may be "LOL"ing our contracts and other misfortune but we're still the champs until proven otherwise, and like I said before the season, DL doesn't want to be the guy who outsmarts himself by moving vet pieces (i.e. Richards) before they have a chance to repeat.

If we fail? Sure, all bets are off.

It's going to be another mistake by Dean if this next little stretch doesn't produce results, and they are sitting 5-6 points out of a playoff spot at the deadline, and he isn't a seller.

If they are 5-6 points out of a playoff spot at the deadline, and Williams hasn't re-signed, then there is no reason not to trade him if you are looking out for the long term success of this franchise. Dean got burned by Richards. He as much said in a recent interview that all of these guys are now commodities.

I agree, if the Kings are 5-6 out at the deadline and they aren't going to reach common ground on a contract number with Williams he has to be traded because you can't miss the playoffs and lose an asset like that for nothing. Especially when you consider the Kings could use some picks or prospects and they actually may need to move one of those things this summer to get someone to end this Richards nightmare.

And you hit the nail on the head, DL has been far to loyal to some guys on this team and now we are starting to see awful decisions that were based on loyalty more than logic that are going to make it tougher for this team to contend.

I think at this point I would like to remind Dean that his #1 obligation is to the fans that suffered through a ton of crap hockey before we finally saw the Kings win a cup.

I respect all of the players on this roster, but when they're done, they're done and it's time to move on. If their contract doesn't fit into the what the team is trying to accomplish, move them out for a player with a contract that does. Of course, no good organization that is still capable of contending makes wholesale changes and continuity is important, but losing Richards and Williams wouldn't be the end of the world. Especially if Williams brings a nice return in a trade.

No offense but no, it isn't. His number one obligation is to AEG. He's just been fortunate enough to be given the payroll to put together a winning team and a by product of that is winning the Stanley Cup twice.

And as much as the fans have suffered, little of that suffering is DL's fault. He inherited a team that had some nice assets but overall was largely flawed and turned them into a playoff machine that has given fans two Stanley Cups in three years. As things stand today, Kings fans are far better off than a lot of other fan bases. He doesn't owe us much. If anything, we owe him some patience to do his job.

I get what your saying and kinda agree as a fan...if your team doesn't win it is better to set it up the following season to make a stronger push.

Owners and a GM can't look at it that way! Every home playoff game is an extra 3-4 million in profits. No playoffs is a loss for the front office.

Nice win for the Kings! tough loss for the blackhawks. The Bulls beat the Warriors the night before and that was a surprise win. This was a surprise loss, but the Kings stayed with the Hawks and got the goals in the third. Well played physical game. Look forward to the next game between both teams.

These two teams sure can get it on, eh?

Both teams upped their compete level for this one. I think the announcers got it right when they said the goals in this game were cumulatively better shots than you are accustomed to seeing.

I skimmed the boards of some of the other teams tonight and read a lot of praise for how exciting and skilled tonight's Hawks-Kings game was.

You pretty much took everything I said out of context.
