I would take the 2017 group. The two defenceman are just way too good and a 1-2 centre punch of Pettersson/Hischier is outstanding.

Easily 2015. Best player in the league and the clear second best player of the group in Eichel. The defenders in the 2017 class are amazing but the forwards are really underwhelming.

Mcdavid - Eichel - Zacha down the middle is incredible center depth

Trade Marner for a top pair d, Hanifin anchors a 2nd pairing.
Hell if you want you could trade McDavid for most of the other group.

On Paper, 2015, just because of McD and Eichel alone, that gets my vote

But having two top D in Makar/Heiskanen plus Petey in the 1C slot. I can see this team taking a series against 2015

Tough one. I’d probably lean for the McDavid group, but a Petterson, Makar, Heiskanen led team with Hischier as 2C would be ridiculous.

strome << makar
hanifin < patrick
zacha > glass

2017 i guess.
this is the worst evaluation I've seen in a long time. And you've posted some delusional ones before (cough Kase is a top 10 NHL player cough cough) so thats a big statement

Also in what world does Patrick>Hanafin. We're not even sure if Patrick will play another NHL game and he wasn't even good when he was playing
patrick's 18-19 is more impressive than anything hanifins done in years

This was a lot closer than I expected. McDavid makes a big difference, but if you set him to the level of a normal #1 (say at Eichel's level) then I would pretty easily take the 2017 group.

Kind of the multi-player equivalent of talent over need. McDavid, Eichel and Marner are an embarrassment of offensive riches, but Pettersson, Hischier, Heiskanen and Makar fill a lot of the boxes you want in a core. I think I might take 2017 for the balance. We've seen how hard it's been for the Oilers to fill in around McDavid and Draisaitl. With 2017, you get a worse but still really good 1-2 punch at center going forward, but then likely one of the best if not the best 1-2 punch on the backend going forward. It's much easier to fill a defense when you have two number 1s already.

Incompetent management isn't a reason to pass BPA's. Just because we failed surrounding them with legitimate players, doesn't mean an Org like Boston would. Hell, give Yzerman or Sakic the 2015 core, and it's probably lights out.

McDavid and Eichel as your top two centres? Pretty damn good. Then again, Heiskanen and Makar as your top two defenceman is tempting. Probably lean toward 2015 though.

If these various analytics were around back in the 1980s, I bet we'd see a handful of people arguing that Denis Savard was on par with Wayne Gretzky.

Pure Value Review (ranked by how I value the players in each draft)
Mcdavid > Pettersson
Eichel > Heiskanen
Marner < Makar (though close)
Strome = Hischier (I think this is quite close as well)
Hanifin > Glass
Zacha > Patrick

I think this is 2015 right now. I also think we are seeing all 2017 top players in the playoffs, vs. the 2015 top players not playing currently. So that likely biased the view.

2015 over 2017, but a good matchup
