Does anyone know the prize money given to the team for the 2012 SC, 2013 WCF, and 2104 SC?

I thought I read somewhere that the team split ~$8 million or something like that for the 2014 SC.

I bring this up because I wonder if some of these guys take home town discounts knowing they can make some of it up with prize money.

On a one year basis, it probably isn't a factor, but when you string together 3 or 4 or 5 years of extended playoff performances, the prize money definitely adds up.

To put it in perspective, the salary cap is $69mm, so the prize money is ~12% of the salary cap.

I don't think it's announced how the players divide up the pot, but you'd think it's important for someone like Matt Greene, if he gets 1/23 * $8mm = ~$350k. If his base salary is $2.5mm, then the prize money would boost him back up closer to where his actual market value would be.

Would that be $8M split up among the team, or the team and staff? Also, I must assume that there are taxes on that. I don't believe the money is an incentive, I think winning the cup is enough.

I was under the impression that the players got the prize money, but they could divide it up however they want.

I agree that winning the cup is incentive enough to perform well, but the prize money isn't chump change.
