Chabot is perhaps more injury prone and still trying to figure out how to be a top pair defenseman at 27.

Karlsson is 33 and just put up a Hart level performance and has proven he can play big minutes and succeed in the playoffs.

Chabot is a way bigger and riskier question mark for the next 3-4 years. Years we could be competing not for a playoff spot but for a cup.

Would you say no to Chara at 33, Crosby at 33, Alfredsson at 33,Lidstrom at 33, Sakic or Yzerman at 33 for the likes of Chabot when you're trying to win? Karlsson is on their level.

And we agree that we need a nice mix of quality veterans on offense and defense like the Hawks, Kings and Pens.

Giroux and Karlsson, two hyper competitive and veteran legends on offense and defense leading Brady, Stutzle, Sanderson, Batherson, Norris, Chychrun, Zub, Greig, Kleven etc

That's way closer to the Pens, Hawks and kings blueprint than hoping Chabot finally figures out how to play more than 23 effective minutes or finally having an elite season at the age of 27.

Not to mention fixing the obvious flaw of having like 5 LHD and 1 RD.

We have our Kane, Toews, Kopitar, Doughty, Keith Sharp, Brown, Hossa etc We could and should be competing for a cup now.

But people seem content to just "develop" and hope for a playoff spot for the next three years.
You make a convincing argument.

One thing is missing. Pittsburgh had Fleury then Murray to dominate in the playoffs. LA had Quick who was amongst the best goalies for the majority of his career. The Blackhawks had Crawford who was a pretty dependable goalie who could play lights out and steal a game.

We don't have a goalie.

Chabot is still an impressive defenceman. He was the MVP of the world Juniors. He has eaten huge minutes with a supporting cast in shambles for years. He seems to be a very mature young man. I think it is more likely that Chabot will get better as he gets older (at least for a couple of years). He can play less minutes and feel supported by a cast of above average defenders. The stress taken off of his mind to not be the number 1 and only option might help him with injury issues.

I see a lot for this team aswell. I just think that Chabot will have a big part to play in those potential future playoff runs.

The conclusive angle is Bobrovsky sliding the puck in AFTER the whistle lol. You can’t be serious.

This has been like a basketball game, each team making runs. Will kept Toronto in it earlier in the period, Florida has to survive to close this period out.

Every team has injuries. They beat them because they were first on every puck. Made Lindholm and McAvoy look terrible. They were turning pucks over all over the place. You can tell who has been watching the games and who hasnt in this thread. Its just wild to me that no one is giving them any credit around here.
Bert get serious! What team can lose their top 2 centres plus their Vezina calibre goalie and not be greatly affected?

No goal. TNT has Koharski on ; He said what was shown on the camera was after the whistle which is impossible to hear on a replay ,.. But its perfectly fine by me.. Panthers need a goal to close this out.

Sens would already be home resting up for the ECF if they made it past the 3 teams ahead of them and they were a little healthier

Fake it till you make it baby, I love it!

Haha no goal

Tavares Marner Matthews etc are so absent that Reilly needs to step up
Are you watching the game?. They're all over Florida right now.
There's this narrative that Toronto's big four haven't shown up. Look at the stats.. they leads in shots, faceoffs won, blocked shots, dangerous chances. They're getting shut down by a goalie playing possessed. But to say they haven't shown up is just a bad take.

It really feels inevitable the laffs are getting the next goal. Florida has to ramp up the intensity and shut this thing down.

Giordano commits blatant interference to prevent at the very least a partial break by Lundell that doesn’t get called….I somehow doubt the Leafs organization will be crying into the night about the injustice of it all that the refs missed this call.

as a fan I'd prefer just letting them play.
