It's pretty easy to predict Marner would suck shit in the playoffs. That's only been the case every year ever. Matthews I'm willing to give a pass on since he's having to carry Marner, and of the two he's the only one willing to forecheck. He's also a (much?) better defensive player than Marner. How the F did Marner get his Selke nomination? "bUhT He PLayS oN THe Pk!!"

Keefe is also a joke. Somehow is more clueless and has less answers than DJ. Dubas is kind of chickenshit, but I don't think he's thaaaaat bad. Ultimately, Dubas and Keefe are not a better group than what we got, easily.

That is crazy. If anyone wants to know why they're down 3 nil, there it is
Wow,

These leaf characters do not up their games at all for the playoffs! Players like Pavelski (age 38) are consistently raising their games and scoring big goals in the playoffs.

Draisaitl has 13 goals in 8 games!

This Marner dude was nominated for the Selke? All I see when I watch the highlights are bad giveaways by Marner either through a bad pass, bad defensive positioning or just straight loosing puck battles along the boards. How on earth is this guy a top 3 defensive player of the year?

It is insanely concerning for the Leafs - like...insanely. What the heck do they do now? Trade one of the great regular season players of this era? Trade Marner? Trade Nylander? Trade them all and start over? What a waste of 7 years or whatever it was.

Tavares has a full NMC and has his Leafs jam jams, so that's not happening.

So much firepower too. It's actually quite interesting to watch.

This. This series should put to rest the idea that Toronto's stars need a better supporting cast. Their supporting cast is fine. It's on them.

I wouldn't blame Dubas for their performance. He didn't draft them, and he would never have been given the green light to trade them.

I would blame him for hiring and sticking with, his buddy Keefe, who's shown to have absolutely zero backbone.

As it turns out, Babcock was right about this core. He was an asshole about it, sure. But he was right.

Babcock knew he needed to get the weakness’s out of his core, and the players won that power struggle. And you’re right, Babcock was right - the core was weak where it matters

To give Matthews credit, that is some shady stuff Sportsnet is pulling there. Making everyone else past 7 games while making Matthews past 3 games to make him look worse. Matthews has 5 goals in his last 7 games.
I'm willing to give him another game off. He deserves it.

You have to be able to score to advance in the Stanley Cup playoffs. Captain Obvious wannabe conclusion . Load up that top 6 may not be the only way.
There is a big contrast between how Seattle does it and how Edmonton does it or how Toronto would like to do it.
I personally am loving what Seattle is doing with no superstars, a team commitment to two way play, and balance through four lines that have the ability to score. Add to that a tenacious in your face style and some good not great goal tending and its a recipe for success. Dallas is a very good team and they could still beat them but so far so good.

Oddly I am finding a lot of similarity between Carolina's approach to winning games and Seattle's.

Skating is a major factor plus the willingness to play a physical game.

Now that they're crashing and burning in the playoffs again, sure. Couple months ago? Effusive praise for the work they've done with lots of posters talking about how they'd be top candidates for the respective jobs here if they get canned in Toronto.
I’ll take Keefe in a heartbeat. He would be great here.

I would keep Matthews, obviously.

I would probably want a player of similar caliber back for Marner. Pierre-luc Dubois for Laine type of deal. That would probably be unrealistic but now is the best time ever to look to trade Marner. He had another great season and was a Selke finalist.

If I were Dubas I would look for players with sneaky upside that might be under-valued by their current team, or maybe just someone with a good record in the playoffs.

Nylander does not really impress me either but you wouldn't get as much by trading him and he seems to do relatively well in the playoffs. He has averaged about 1 point per game over the last 4 playoffs.

I think if the Leafs move anyone it's likely going to be Nylander given how much fans love Marner & Mathews, he is also the guy they talked the most about moving last yr after they were ejected from the 1st rd. While they won't be able to acquire a Mathew Tkachuk they might be able to find a younger version of Killorn or try & sign Killorn this summer if he is a UFA. They need that kind of sandpaper in their top six & should play with Mathews & Marner.

The Leafs already have the power winger they need, he's just out with a concussion right now.

dont know if I agree with posters trashing Keefe and comparing him to DJ.

DJ is honestly bad. Keefe’s players turn to shit in the playoffs but he gets 100pts season with that D core and Gs. Disagree here personally

Cant wait till we get a real coach

Lots of chatter Brendan Shanahan will start in goal for Toronto Wednesday - wants to be there for his team, Matthew Spezza is backing up
