The excuses for what the referees did there is insane.

No call made on the play. Apparently they allegedly huddled and decided to make a call after the play. And then they reviewed it to upgrade it to 4 minutes... but why would they need to review anything if they made the call? Just look for a f***ing mark on O'Reilly.

Meanwhile last series the referee is staring the Lightning player in the face and he misses a highstick. They don't huddle. They don't review. No penalty is called despite it being blindingly obvious to everyone on the planet. Toronto wins game 7 after Tampa Bay loses out on a crucial powerplay attempt.

The NHL should really step in here - either referees huddle and do it way more often or they never do it. Because it's a ridiculous look.

Same team. The incidents happened on back to back games. Both times the Leafs come out on top. First with a non-call and now with a non-call, huddle call, review double minor.
They called it 4 in the ice which is what allows them to review it, the reason to review is because you can downgrade the call if for example O'Reilly hit himself with his own stick

In the end, it was the right call, I still don't like how they got there but it was the right call

I was sure they didn't call anything on the ice?

Kind of funny that Leafs Twitter has gone from “who cares about analytics playoffs are about clutch goals!” last week back to “well we had 4.33 expected goals!” tonight. Feels like 2022!

Seattle is built different
Eastern teams who made it into 2nd round are build by nerds.
Seattle is built by girl nerds.

I think you are right and I think our coaching is way below average.

Just looking at it on paper their defense is honestly impressive how ugly it
you do realize one of the key reasons why Florida beat Boston is because Bobrovski stood on his head in crucial moments/games and pretty much was the catalyst behind the comeback. on the other side you had a goalie with a 0.938 sv% and 1.89 gaa in the reg season implode to a 0.896 sv% and 3.33 gaa in the playoffs ...

- NJ bailed out by backup
- Jets Hellebuyck imploded

basically what I am trying to say considering the "inconsistent" themed s**tshow Ottawa goalies put on display this season to suggest the coaching was below average when its nearly impossible to achieve almost anything without it being consistent so for them to almost getting the team into the playoffs not mentioning all other valid reasons as to why they didn't, I 'd say some praise is deserved instead of the constant bashing

Watching these playoffs, i really believe we have the defence to match up. 3 big, mobile guys and zub.

And soon Kleven

What I've gathered from these playoffs so far:

- Ottawa's bottom 6 is woefully inadequate. The teams still in it roll 4 good lines.
- Goaltending doesn't need to be phenomenal it just needs to be "good enough". Toronto and Edmonton have done just fine with average goaltending. You could argue Florida as well until tonight's game. We don't have a "good enough" goalie right now.

Bob didnt stand on his head against Boston

Bob didnt stand on his head against Boston
I didn't say the whole series .... crucial moments/ games .... such as game 5 in Boston facing elimination stops 44 of 47 against the 2nd top ranked offense (reg season)...average night in the crease I guess

Last thing I had on my bingo card for the playoffs was:

Paul Maurice making me believer of his

Hasn’t happened yet but if he defeats the Leaves - HOLY MACKINAW

While you do make some valid points I respectfully disagree about coaching. Coaching can make a lot of goalies look good/better. The talent on this team is better than some teams still in the playoffs in my humble opinion

I’ve got to disagree. We were a 1 line team this year with above average special teams and below average goaltending. Our roster is full of problems.

I didn't see the game 7. No tv at the cottage.

But....missing a high stick is just that. A missed call. No blood, it's only 2 minutes. It's not reviewable. There's nothing to huddle about

Last night, O'Reilly is obviously leaking bad. IF it was high sticking, then it's an automatic 4 minutes. They huddle. Anyone see it? Yep. Ok, call it 4. Let's review and verify.

This is what the rule says
For double-minor high-sticking penalties, the referee making the call will have the discretion to review it at the scorer's table. If upon review it shows that the offending stick was not from the player being penalized, the referee will be able to rescind the call.

So going back to game 7, if there's no blood there's no grounds for a double minor therefore no opportunity to review

I think that's an exaggeration

I think it was @Micklebot that posted we played a 45 game stretch at a rate of 10th best in the league. Early injuries hurt. Adapting to Norris's injury hurt and took time. Goalie injuries/woes hurt to close it out.

We've got designed parity. Some styles match up better against some teams than others.

Boston got sub 900 goaltending from Ulmark and were taken out. Sub 900 will make pretty much every team vulnerable

I don't think it's a huge stretch to believe we would have looked like we belong had we made the playoffs

How is what I said an exaggeration. We were a 1 line team this year.

Norris back helps a lot, another years experience will help, I like our D but we still need a much better bottom 6 and another vet goalie.

Health plays a huge role whether people want to call it excuses or not.

Pinto couldn't cut it on the second line 5v5 especially with Batherson struggling with the lingering effects of a high ankle sprain and whatever was going on between his ears, Greig did well but only played a dozen or so games in that role.

The D was adapting to a revolving door of players, be it due to injuries or new additions, we had 14 different guys suit up. 68 man games for AHL level guys, rookies and whatever you want to call Zaitsev. That doesn't include Sanderson btw

All that said, had we made the playoffs, who's actually healthy? If Chabot and Chychrun are back, are they 100%? Is Talbot in net and if so is he playing like mid season Talbot or returning from injury Talbot?

I think we have the pieces to be competitive, health and consistency are my concerns
