People underestimate the level of parity in the league.

From Nov 25 to Mar 9th, we had the 10th best pts %, that's a 45 game stretch.

Talbot got hurt early Mar, Forberg mid Feb, not that goaltending was a strength but not many teams can go to their third goalie for an extended stretch without problems.

Our roster with average health isn't bad at all. The mix of coaching, depth, and experience isn't there to overcome extensive and/or key injuries though.
I think you are right and I think our coaching is way below average.

Just looking at it on paper their defense is honestly impressive how ugly it is

Oh god now Leafs fans will whine for days over the missed high stick as if they even deserve this win regardless.

Edit: Nvm forgot this is Toronto so the refs are giving them a free review.

Not sure how I feel about this new trend for refs to call a double minor when there was no initial call so that they can review on video

It's funny, what happened in game 7 round one to that Lightning player in an even closer game with more time left?

But they'll review for Toronto.
Came here to post this.

Kinda crazy how bad the officials are and how there is 0 consistency in this league

How is this reviewable?

Bolts would have caved easily in those last 5 min. Feeling way more confident with Bob between the pipes. It's only one game, but liking the Cats' resilience against all odds (including the refs)

I think there's some chicken vs egg here.

With the amount of injuries we had and the lack of experience, combined with significant roster turnover, sloppy play is to be expected.

Not saying DJ is a great coach, but I do think he gets more blame than he likely deserves.

Anyways, happy to see Florida beat Toronto, I really don't see any favourite in the east now that Boston is gone.

The excuses for what the referees did there is insane.

No call made on the play. Apparently they allegedly huddled and decided to make a call after the play. And then they reviewed it to upgrade it to 4 minutes... but why would they need to review anything if they made the call? Just look for a f***ing mark on O'Reilly.

Meanwhile last series the referee is staring the Lightning player in the face and he misses a highstick. They don't huddle. They don't review. No penalty is called despite it being blindingly obvious to everyone on the planet. Toronto wins game 7 after Tampa Bay loses out on a crucial powerplay attempt.

The NHL should really step in here - either referees huddle and do it way more often or they never do it. Because it's a ridiculous look.

Same team. The incidents happened on back to back games. Both times the Leafs come out on top. First with a non-call and now with a non-call, huddle call, review double minor.

The politicking in the first couple of games is paying off. Refs are terrified of being accused of hating Keefe or the Leafs and are bending over backwards to look "fair" while giving them a massive advantage.
