Pastrnak is worth every penny.... he's only 26. They have a great core.... They are gonna continue to be good with or without Bergeron and Krejci. McAvoy is a top 5 d man. Carlo, Lindholm, gryz, Debrusk all young. Solid goaltending. I don't think they're in that bad of shape.
They have loads of good pieces, but with their cap penalties next year, their depth is taking a hit regardless

Does it even matter if Florida wins another round? This is a giant accomplishment on its own to beat the best team in NHL history down 3-1. Hopefully they give Toronto a run for its money but this has to be satisfying.

It matters, it matters a lot. I was hoping for the B's to win it but I'm going to cope on the Panthers being hungrier, getting to play as the underdog again. And at least Brady will be taking in more playoff hockey from a somewhat inside track, hopefully giving his brother lots of motivation to bring it

Toronto has a really easy path to a cup finals right now.

This is going to suck as a sens fan in Ottawa. Going to see a lot of blue jerseys, and new leaf fans pop up making it their team. Its the last thing this market needs.
maybe that exactly what Boston was thinking...this Florida team had 122 pts last season and experienced the same outcome as Boston did this year last year. The trade for MT was done to add grit/thoroughness/character for the playoffs as that was something they lacked...if anything this team was one of the biggest dissapoitments for most of the season just like Bobrovski so far as a Panther...if he gets his old mojo back and plays anywhere close to as he did in Columbus, then the Leafs are in trouble...Carolina, NJ, NYR nothing easy about facing them

The leaves will never have a better shot at the Cup. Ugh

Maybe that will be their undoing. Fans and media now are outright demanding a Cup parade. The pressure in Toronto is going to crush them.

If they were playing Boston, it would've been easier for them as the fans would've given up after one loss.

And Colorado...now that is an embarrassment. Total choke job for them.

Seattle was a 100 point team with bottom 5 goaltending. Don't think it's that big of a choke when you take into account Colorados injuries and lack of depth. I think Sakic made some big mistakes not adding another top 6 forward.

This first round goes to show you how close things really are in a 32 team league where there's 16 in and 16 out. I think mathematically we were equal with Florida around game 65. All of a sudden we've got no goaltending and ba boom.

Florida is no pushover. They were president cup winners last season.

Boston is in really bad shape against the cap next year. Whoever said they were a mirage, I somewhat agree with that. Their goaltending was superb. A good team for sure but their team save percentage was a bit of a statistical outlier. I think last night they entered the dark ages. And I love the look of defeat on the smug ass face of McAvoy

Toronto definitely goes into that series as a favourite, but they should not be taking the Panthers lightly. I'm surprised at how many people are saying they now have an "easy path" to the finals (same with the Oilers).

The Panthers are not just some scrappy wildcard team. They brought back 13 players from last year's team which won the President's trophy, upgraded from Huberdeau to Tkachuk, and have a Cup-winning coach behind the bench. And Montour has decided to become an all-world defenseman this season. The guy just up 73 points! Yeah, they had some struggles in the regular season, but haven't we learned from history? You just have to get hot at the right time.

I give tons of credit to the Leafs for beating the Lightning, because the result is all that matters, but let's be honest - that series was a coin flip. 3OT games and Tampa led for more than they trailed. Plus, Cernak was out, Hedman/Point were playing at 70%, and the Bolts came into the playoffs playing shit hockey for the last 1.5 months of the season.

The Panthers just beat a much better team, came into the playoffs on a heater, and IMO, matchup better with the Leafs than this version of the Bolts did. They deserve much more respect than they're getting. The Leafs/Panthers thread on the Toronto forum has quickly turned into "how we matchup vs. Carolina"...

Panthers were 24-13-4 in the last 41 regular season games. Leafs were 25-12-4. This is an even matchup.

I expect it to go 6 or 7, and wouldn't at all be surprised if Florida took it.

And in regards to this playoff's impact on Ottawa... jesus christ can we end the "meaningful games" charade? The only meaningful games come in the playoffs, and you just gotta get in. Then, anything can happen.

Would be great to see Colin fulfill his destiny and supplant Patrice Bergeron as the best 2-way center in the remainder of the playoffs.
That would be a heck of a turnaround for a guy who played under seven minutes last night with one shot on goal, and was one for five in the dot. (Two blocks, though.) Love Whitey, but he is the ultimate replacement level player now, basically Dylan Gambrell with a better draft pedigree. He'll bounce around the league for another year or two, then head off to Europe...

and have a Cup-winning coach behind the bench.
Maurice has never won a Cup, which is kind of shocking given how long he has been around and how high he is on the all time win list for coaches. He's not even that old, really - still in his mid-50s, meaning he could be around for a while still yet. Maybe he is due...

I would imagine if NJ takes NY out, Toronto will have no excuses but to make the Cup - especially with an injured Caroline squad.

The Maurice against the Leafs angle will pick up steam if the Panthers can show well.

This will be a very different series than the Leafs just had. I expect it to be far more physical.

Only concern is game 1 with Panthers trying to match the emotion of, "the biggest upset in NHL history" and coming in a little flat.

The other interesting angle of this series is that I think the Leafs had kind of bought into the "us against the world" underdog mentality. That's what it would've been vs the Bruins. But after the events of the last 2 days, they have now been firmly elevated to the favorites in the East.

Will they embrace that pressure now that they've won a round? Or will it they start looking ahead too much...

I was making a bit of a joke.... if you remember when Colin White was drafted the Sens scout responsible for the selection compared him to Patrice Bergeron.

With Bergeron probably playing his last game last night, I thought it would be clever to link the two.

I figured as much - all good. I would have loved to see a Colin White Redemption Tour, but as it turns out he is exactly the guy we thought he was when we bought him out. And to think that we drafted him over Travis Konecny...sigh.
