That guy in Bruins jersey standing next to the cup ;)

Random question, whose statue is in the background?

Can't see the links at work, but if it is at Fanueil Hall, it's probably Sam Adams. He and the Sons of Liberty launched the Revolution from within those very walls.

Thank you. I am very much interested in the whole process of American revolution.

Interesting story behind the statue. It is a copy of one Massachusetts submitted to the National Statuary Hall back in the 1870s. The artist is a woman named Anne Whitney. She later recreated the version seen at Fanueil Hall in bronze. So there is one in marble in DC, and one in bronze in Boston.

The pose is meant to recreate the stance of defiance Samuel Adams had when he demanded the British Troops be removed from Boston after the Boston Massacre.

Inscribed on the base is

Samuel Adams 1722-1803 - A Patriot - He organized the Revolution, and signed the Declaration of Independence.

Governor - A True Leader of the People.

Erected A. D. 1880, from a fund bequeathed to the city of Boston by Jonathan Phillips.

A statesman, incorruptible and fearless.

Samuel Adams is my favorite patriot. He was a philosopher, a firebrand, a statesman, and a street fighter all rolled into one.

I teach middle and high school history and I lean heavily on the John Adams HBO series for my American History class.

They do a really good job with Sam Adams.
Danny Huston is a great actor.

That was a great series. Paul Giamatti was amazing.

Interesting info. There's so many figures involved in that process, you can go on endless trip clicking on names in wikipedia.

I need to see it.

I wish they would do something similar on Alexander Hamilton.

On the couch
Why not just wait and see it at this year's Stanley Cup parade ???? ;)

Because I don't want to pay for a flight/Acela to Washington. :sarcasm::naughty:

Seriously, what is wrong with me - how did I not know this was going to be in Boston? Was it some kind of surprise? I probably wouldn't have gone....but it's nice to be invited....

NBC Boston was promoting it but the problem is nobody is watching the new station.
