Observations: Bruins had a ****** last half last season  Lets hope they play more like it's the first 48 games of the season than the last.

Not sure how relevant this is. Just thought it would be interested to see. The biggest jaw dropper was Carolina. They go from last in the East to a 7th seed. Buffalo from 2nd to last to an 8th seed. Other than that, it's the usual suspects in either end of the spectrum.

Last half is sort of misleading IMO because the best teams can sort of put it in cruise control, while the rest fight it out to make the playoffs. The stat that broadcasters like to pull out is that, on average, 7 of the 9 teams that are in a playoff position by Thanksgiving make the playoffs so really it's about the 6-8 seeds down the stretch.

Also, you say that they had a poor final 48 games, but they had just 4 points fewer than the Flyers who had the 4th most points in the final 48. I think that 48 games is a plenty large sample to weed out the poor teams from the contenders and I don't much buy into the hype about the shortened schedule favoring weaker teams.

Maple Leafs last down the stretch....whodda thunk?

Actually, i'd like to see the breakdown for # of 3 point games in 1st 48 compared to 3 point games in last 48.

Under 82 game schedule around 93 points will get you the 8th seed, so by similar math around 54 points will now get you the 8th seed. Gonna see a heavy does of OT games as every team will want to salvage at least a point to stay in the hunt.
