the direct quote:
he waited until the last second on his previous team friendly deal so idk about that
So much that JBB was very hopeful as soon as he got off the plane from Miami lol he has no interest in signing Stamkos to a fair deal
I get trying to be cautious with the cap and saving where possible, but man, don't be stingy with the franchise guy who's willing to take a discount already. His production is still PPG, don't insult the man with something ridiculous. So much that JBB was very hopeful as soon as he got off the plane from Miami lol he has no interest in signing Stamkos to a fair deal
I mean, at 10m, I think this is a good point. At anything under 8... 40 goals is 40 goals, no matter how you slice it, and it's not easy to replace. The truth is JBB is a cutthroat and knows Stamkos isn't as valuable to this team as he once was. And we all know it.
This is the reason why JBB didn't sign Stammer last offseason, this is the reason why he isn't signed yet.
We all love Stammer, but it's time to face reality: he's a PP specialist with a 5v5 game that is net negative (by a lot, I might add). Do you guys really want to commit 7 or 8+M x many years to that? Even if we had cap space I would be against that. We already have Sergachev and Cirelli on overpriced contracts compared to what's their contribution on the ice, if we add a bloated Stamkos contract this will be the nail in the coffin for this core.
We need to bring in some fresh blood, trade either Cirelli or Serg (or both, if we can fill holes and get Guentzel) and re-sign Stammer to a team friendly contract. If he wants north of 6-6.5 with term, let him walk and let another team deal with a bad contract.
All hyperbole aside, this is well and good if JBB has a concrete plan to improve the roster. The truth is JBB is a cutthroat and knows Stamkos isn't as valuable to this team as he once was. And we all know it.

Problem is if you lose Stamkos then keep status-quo then the team ia already cooked. Down 2 top 6 forwards and a one line team. This smells wild card at best for 1 to 2 more years then back to missing the post season. JBB gonna just sign nobody 4th liners with the little cap he has gave himself to use.The truth is JBB is a cutthroat and knows Stamkos isn't as valuable to this team as he once was. I see nothing of this with Guentzel. I don't see the hype. Anyone who signs him long term for high salary is going to regret it. The guy is 30. A 7 or 8 year deal for him would be hell for half of it, if not more. That's what I'm talking about. We very likely aren't that far away on Stamkos. You could literally trade Cirelli and Sergachev and completely overhaul the farm, roster, salary structure all at the same time while getting one of the better playoff performers you're going to find anywhere. AND we'd have enough room for a bottom 6 signing (maybe even 2) after a Sheary buyout and/or Jeannot trade. We're talking upwards of $20 million in cap space. He is exactly what we need to win a Cup again. Stamkos back at 2C (Paul at 3C) and Guentzel in either of our top 2 lines would be devastating in the playoffs.
Send it.
Pull it off and JFBB ascends to Super Saiyan God
Definitely, that would be quite devastating. All hyperbole aside, this is well and good if JBB has a concrete plan to improve the roster.
If the plan is to let the black-hole, washed, 40G power play specialist (which seems like an amazing trick) to walk without replacing him with better talent then this is all pointless.
The L's keep piling up for him.Definitely, that would be quite devastating.
If Stamkos walks, I'm pretty sure one of Sergachev or Cirelli will be traded for some good (+still cheap) assets and we take a run at Guentzel. But this is all hypothetic, as we saw with Hanifin you can't count of a player making it to FA.
If Stamkos walks and we can't replace him, that's a L on JBB. Not an easy position to be in, but he's got to sort it out.
Why not just trade one of Cirelli or Serge and re-sign Stamkos?Definitely, that would be quite devastating.
