Trotz really playing some 4D chess. First poach them their 1st rounder, then take away one of their best players, lol!!
I wrote at the time that McDonagh was traded back to Tampa that it'd be funny if the Lightning now couldn't afford Stamkos, allowing Trotz to poach him... and it actually happened. :amazed:

Stamkos was just on TSN and said that Nashville made him feel really special with how much they wanted him. He called Nashville a fantastic city, says that he's familiar with some of the players and says that the team and city were a good fit for him as a player and a fit for his family. He also mentioned going to a playoff contender that's committed to winning and adding pieces, specifically pointing out how aggressive they've been today.

Love him as a player. Hope the contract doesnt look ugly in 3 years but might need to get a jersey. If nothing else, this should drive ticket and memorabilia sales

I'd like to see all of the people dismissing Stamkos as old try to do his workout

Yeah, a hockey player shouldn't be "old" at 34. Sometimes you need a change of scenery and a fresh outlook regardless of age, though. People said O'Reilly or Nyquist were "done". I can see it being a little bit comfortable lately in Tampa, they won their Cups, they've got the same core running it out there even after the glory days are now over. But 34 shouldn't be old yet for an elite athlete playing hockey. Hopefully he is energized by his change of scenery, just like O'Reilly was.
