Stamkos is cooked

Nashville did really poor pro scouting this offseason, all they say was ZOMG STAMKOSZZZ was available and gave him a retirement contract.

Did they just see highlights on ESPN thinking he was able to produce with the Preds like he did with the Bolts? Stamkos on the PP is brilliant but his 5 on 5 is basura at best.

Everyone knew the guy was cooked, he was cherry picking points off Kucherov and Point last year. Those guys got Jake Guentzel and are destroying the league points wise while Stamkos is in the basement with Nashville on a bloated deal.

Were they ever? I thought the consensus was that it was a shame to see a deal not get done, but the price he wanted didn't make sense for the impact he had on games.
Rumor broke out that Stamkos was asking for 4m and TB was offering 2. There was some anger over that. It now seems like 4m was never a real offer from Stamkos.

We always figured it would make us better 5v5 to lose him. Honestly, I figured the PP wouldn't miss a beat, because it never did when Stamkos missed months at a time. It did struggle to begin this year, but I think we are 4th in the league now?

It's a sad end, because Stamkos meant so much to the franchise as a person. But most TB fans could see that a lot of his numbers were smoke and mirrors.

Stamkos' current issues aside...

The people who say "powerplay merchant", does it matter if a player scores 40 on the PP vs ES? 40 goals is 40 goals, and if you want to win hockey games you better be able to score on the PP and win the special teams battle.
I think the issue is less that he scores more on the PP and more of a) he's a product of Kucherov on the PP (which means without him his production has cratered) and b) less about his goal scoring ES and more of just quality of play at ES.

Only 4 more years, Nashville!

And looking at the buyout options it's almost not worth it. Better to just play him on the 3rd line as he declines.

Why is this still shocking? Most Tampa fans said this, most people that watched Tampa last year said this.

Guy still has a role in nhl but not has an elite forward. Pp specialist

I mean Filip Forsberg is on pace for 52 points after 94 last year.

Did Forsberg, O'Reilly, Marchessault, and Stamkos all get cooked at the same time? It's a team playing like shit.
Forsberg said to a Finnish commentator in the summer that he's about to score 70 goals next season. Will be lucky to get 70 points

Crazy as it is, he'd be PPG in Tampa probably. He shoulda took a discount for the legacy and possibly another cup, but money talks. Guy was a hell of a player in his prime.. He's only 34, it really makes you think how that knee injury 7-8 years ago is ruining his play right now.

If he played 5v5 with Kucherov, ppg wouldn't be out of the question. But there are only 3 or 4 guys in the league who can get that kind of production out of Stamkos.

Production aside, Stamkos got away with doing a ton of stupid shit while on the ice too, extremely careless passes, turnovers and defensive lapses that were just glossed over because he's Stamkos in Tampa, not surprised at all with those "detrimental" results - we've seen it for years. On the other side of that Guentzel almost never does anything stupid with the puck, an extremely solid and consistent player.

Thought he would have at least one somewhat productive season, similar to Fedorov leaving the Wings in his mid 30s. Unfortunately for the Preds this doesn't seem to be the case.

His first few seasons in the league he was just as likely to get an odd man rush goal as he was to get a goal purely off his shot. He lost that elite speed after the Boston leg injury, his speed is now noticeably average/below average. For years his ability to generate offense on his own because of that has diminished.

He also had a lethal wrist shot that he doesn’t use as much any more thanks to upper body injuries. I think it’s purely psychological, because he still has that shot. I seen a stat last year that mentioned how he did more slapshots/ one timers than any other high scoring forward in the league. Historically this is why he’s struggled in the postseason, when the games are played tighter you have less of an opportunity to wind up your shots.

Still knows how to get to dangerous scoring areas of the ice, still knows what to do when the puck is on his stick, but if the other guys on the team don’t get him the puck in the o zone he’s a passenger. He defines the phrase power play specialist now.

I don't understand how Trotz was fooled into signing Stamkos on that term. Stamkos's stats would look sexy in Swiss league in a year or two.
