It’s pretty well established that Stamkos hasn’t been a play driver since the leg injury. He’s a shooter and still one of the best at that in the league. That means on a good team he’ll put up good numbers and on a bad team put up bad numbers. The whole Preds team has been awful this year, of course his numbers will look bad.

Trotz went full Yzerman, and thankfully beat him out in signing Stamkos.
I agree, his playing driving wouldn't necessarily look that much better on a good team...but the results would be much better on a good team. I am still hopeful if Bruno gets canned, we can put Stamkos in a position to be successful, but that hope is fading. He's getting older. This is the year we should be putting him in position to be successful, as with all the players, but unfortunately Bruno is unwavering on how he thinks the game should be played. The roster just isn't a good fit for the frantic up and down play he envisions.
It's exactly this. Not only has he not been consistently deployed properly, but even if he were it's not like the Preds have anyone who can reliably feed him the puck.
You don't go from 42, 34, 40 down to 19 goals in one summer, it's the environment that is just as much to blame as the player. But he also chose to sign here and had to see that we didn't have anyone even close to Kucherov or Point.

sucks to see how sucky he has been, hope he turns it around enough for the rest of the year to not make this year a complete write off

It’s not just Kuch though. Most of Stamkos points last year were at even strength and most of his ice time at even strength was without Kuch. He needs someone to set him up for shots in the offensive zone but if the team is stuck in the defensive zone he’s certainly not going to score any goals and he’s not the guy to get you out of the defensive zone. It doesn’t have to be a Kucherov but at least someone proficient at moving the puck up the ice or a team system that’s making smart passes up the ice.

Yeah it is clear in the numbers for Stamkos over the past few years that he was a net negative outside the PP and being a finisher for other players actually making the plays.

Yeah as soon as I read this I knew I had to look up the numbers.
You're right that Kucherov didn't play with Stamkos much at even strength which makes your point even worse. Here are the numbers:
Kucherov was in on 28/40 of Stamkos goals 70% !!!!!
Then despite not playing with him much at even strength Kucherov was still in on 11/21 of his even strength goals. More than half!
Stamkos owes Kucherov for getting the new contract he did.

Already has half of Stamkos’ ES production from last year too. He’s a significant 5v5 upgrade and they haven’t even regressed on the PP

I think Stamkos would still be very successful in Tampa. He's in a bad situation and nothing is going in. This happens to players often.
Tough to see an all-time great goal scorer age and fall of the map like this, but it never ceases to amaze me that teams pay their management millions to make easy-to-predict mistakes like Nashville did. A fan can do a better job for free.

It's been a little bit since I looked up the numbers but I believe it was about 40-45% of Stamkos' even strength time playing with Kucherov, so him being in on 11/21 ES goals isn't too surprising. And they were always on the PP together and that's where close to half of Stamkos total goals came from when looking at total goals.
Obviously playing with Kuch will give a boost to his numbers over other linemates, but my point was Stamkos ES points away from Kuch last year weren't nearly as bad as his numbers have been so far this season. I don't think he's regressed so much as it's a fact that he's going to struggle to produce on a struggling team because his one big asset is his shot.
