The Florida Panthers and Tampa Bay Lightning will each host a regular-season outdoor game in 2025-26, the League announced Wednesday.

The defending Stanley Cup champion Panthers will play the New York Rangers in the 2026 Discover NHL Winter Classic at loanDepot Park in Miami on Jan. 2. It will be the first time outdoor hockey will be played in Florida.

One month later, the Lightning will host the Boston Bruins in the 2026 Navy Federal Credit Union Stadium Series at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa on Feb. 1.

Raymond James Stadium, home of the National Football League's Tampa Bay Buccaneers, will be the ninth NFL Stadium to host an outdoor game and seventh to host a Stadium Series.

Off the ice, both teams have inspired a generation of youth hockey players in the state. Ice hockey registration in Florida is up 212% over the 25-year span from 1999 to 2024, with the 21,199 registered players in the state last season, tripling participation from the levels at the turn of the millennium.

Girls hockey participation is up 16.1% year-over-year and up 56% over the past eight years. This season, there are eight Florida-born players in the NHL, more than double the number from a decade ago.

Honestly would rather just play Florida, but thrilled we get to participate at all
I believe Tampa and Florida aren't playing each other because the networks/league are worried that the ratings wouldn't be great, hence why they're bringing two Original 6, Northeast US, large hockey market teams down to juice ratings.

Not saying I agree or disagree with the strategy, but that's what I've read online the past two weeks.

I don't think we're playing each other because there are multiple sites. In a one-off, sure, FloBros go at it.

Two rinks? They might have some trouble selling that many tickets at top dollar. When they had multiple games in NY, it was still various configurations of NYR vs NYI vs NJ vs PHI.

What section does the HFB crew buy?

Pirate ship section?

And oh yeah, I am so there.

It's not like we have any love for the bRUINS so yeah, it will be a hard hitting hostile game on top of that. We love beating up on them.

definitely should have been the other way around with Tampa getting the Winter Classic. Next one on the list is a Florida showdown at either Disney or Alligator alley

I had completely shut that possibility out of my mind.

Seeing Florida get it is just Montreal Typical.

Its just absurd Vinik has been lobbying for this for years and we are the better and older franchise.

We could legit all pitch in and grab a suite or an entire section. Unless the NHL/NFL get greedy and price gouge us.

Fair enough I guess, since Florida just won it all. Boston is usually a fun matchup too so I like this a lot.

Between Rangers and Bruins fans that time of year, both places will easily fill the stands and it will be a nice economic boost. Nice to see the sunshine State going strong in the hockey world, who would've thought we'd see the day?
