I really hope Raftis does the right thing this year and moves players for young players and picks. I can accept a dismal second half with a push for the future. As many have said,, build up for a run with the 07 group.

Players that I would consider moving:
Gibby
Charlie
Owen
Nordh - hard to move an import at the dealine however - need to find the right fit.
Browner - if Kyle can find a dance partner. He couldn't last year at this time.

Time will tell.
I could see Kitchener or Saginaw wanting to add Noel Nordh straight up. Maybe Niagara if they think they can do enough damage.

I could also so Flint and Windsor wanting to swap Josef Eichler or Urban Podrekar and picks for Noel Nordh.

Hounds add 2023 7th round pick Chase Reid. He's an American born defenseman that had been committed to Michigan State.

From what I read, this is a pretty big deal for us. He was a high end recruit for Michigan State.and has NHL draft buzz, but won't be eligible until after next season.

07 crop is looking like a strong group moving forward. Hopefully we can get some assets and build around them

07s are looking great for the Soo. 08s not so much. Camputaro commits to University of Nebraska Omaha. Maybe with the NCAA rule he'll consider signing with the hounds but doubt it.

an '07 right handed shot D is very promising!

possible replacement for a high profile right handed departure? :naughty:
Reid joins a solid core of 07 RHD. I would expect he battles Gillen and Holub for minutes. Solomon has been playing heavy minutes for awhile now and looks like he will inherit Gibsons minutes while at WJC camp. I believe Gibson has played his last game unless he doesn't make the cut.

Reid and Solomon both late 07 birthdates and eligible for 2026 NHL draft. Let's hope Reid transitions to the league as quickly as Solomon has.

The Soo
This will be fun.

Gibby has done everything asked of him in Sault Ste. Marie between the hounds and t-birds, and I'm always shocked/impressed to see how many families he has grown close to in the Soo. He's touched a lot of lives here. I even know someone who named their dog after him (hello if you're on here - )

It would be sad to see him leave but he strikes me as the type of person that will never forget his time in the Soo, and will be back to visit in summers etc.

That said, I'm very excited to see him given an opportunity for one last cup run, and even more excited to see how a potential trade can restock the cupboards. Raftis can go from zero to hero pretty fast if he handles the trade deadline well, and keeps getting NCAA commits to report.

Kingston has been connected to the Soo and Gibson since the offseason. I had discussions with others in August about info I was given. This will be fun.

Hopefully they can work something out and the fronts don’t have to give Hopkins. That’s probably what is taking so long- fronts aren’t going to budge with that.

that's fair, although from a hounds fan perspective, i'm not sure any of the other 2007s on your roster will get this trade done. if i'm raftis i'm looking for a 2007 forward + a bunch of picks and ethan weir isn't going to get that done.

the top defenseman available at the deadline (a right shot at that) is going to come with a price that involves giving up a significant piece of a teams future, and if they aren't comfortable with that, maybe they aren't all in?

Ethan Weir is not going to get that done. But Tyler Hopkins is not realistically going to be traded by a team trying to contend. He is their second line centre, close to a point per game.

Does Kingston have any NCAA commits that haven't reported?

Perhaps the trade can be done without a player in return, but the ask on a pick only deal would drain your cupboards to old mother hubbard levels.

I agree so I don’t see it but there’s been clear interest since August.

Velliaris will break out with more minutes maybe as early as the second half of this season and into next year (and the year after) at the very least he should be a great OHLer but with his great skating and size that’s why some nhl teams have interest even despite him being an unfinished project. Weir I don’t think is a great piece but was highly touted in the ‘23 draft. He was more impressive last year imo but with a new team and potentially playing more minutes he could break out too.

I think he goes to a team like Oshawa for Brady smith or Owen griffin +picks but obviously I would love if he was a front. I just don’t see it though without that 08 first rounder. Maybe if they traded Williamson who is an 06 and has a lot of OHL potential they could get it done rather than the 2 07s weir and Velliaris

It's less about not giving a piece of the team's future but more about also not giving up a big piece of their present. Hopkins is Kingston's 2C and is just shy of PPG.

Ethan Weir is not going to get that done. But Tyler Hopkins is not realistically going to be traded by a team trying to contend. He is their second line centre, close to a point per game.

The biggest NCAA fish Kingston has is Matthew Manza - PPG and rookie of the year for the entire CJHL last year as a 16 year old, moved out to the BCHL and after missing the first couple months has 2 pts in 7 games, committed to Ohio State for 25-26.

I do think Weir needs a change of scenery but his value is at the absolute best equivalent to a 4th.
