just think if the Oiler had come up with 500K a few years ago they could have had Markstrom who is with the Devils now. Wanna go down a rabbit hole? Google Markestrom nearly signs with the oilers and see how many articles are titles "OIlers dodged a bullet"

The Oilers offered him more than Calgary. He signed with Calgary because of his buddy Lindholm

It's genuinely incredible how good McDavid is. Best player ever. The creativity, driving the net, passing, rushing, shooting.

Been watching almost all of his games since his rookie season, and even a good amount of his junior games, hell -- even saw the kid playing in the GTHL and YSE. That might have been his best game last night. Complete domination.

When I'm not throwing shit at the TV because of it I'm grateful to have to watch him so closely so often, lol. It's amazing that in a league unlike others--where 'star power' doesn't auto-win you championships--that one guy can be so incredibly far ahead of his peers that he puts them on the wrong side of the rink.

Oilers could have dragged the game to OT if their coach didn’t immediately put McDrai on the ice after playing straight 4 minutes to tie up the game. Mcdavid turned it over to Gavrikov and Draisaitl couldn’t back check to catch up with Danault since he was gassed. Should have let them rest for OT. Oh well, glad he didn’t lol.

Could the Oilers have given this in December for Mackenzie Blackwood? This is all management with their bandaid fixes in goal and it dominos capwise to losing Holloway and Broberg also. Incompetancy and McDavid will 100% leave next season.

Stuart Skinner - retain $475k

Maybe if McDavid backchecked once in a while, less goals against would happen.

Imagine the psychosis one has undergone to feel the need to defend Skinner at the expense of one of the five greatest players to ever step onto the ice.

Watch the team on a nightly basis, year in and year out, and then you’ll understand why Edmonton fans have been over him consistently letting in back breaking goals.

I mean…he’s not doing it single handedly at all. He didn’t sign himself, keep himself around or continue to play himself.

Thats on others.

Hopefully the scare has a positive effect on the Kings. The game isn't over until it's reached 60. The Oilers are never out of the game.

Yeah the optimist in me hopes that they will not take the oilers sneaking up on them for granted now, no matter what the lead, especially given Oiler propensity for winning Game 2s.

I mentioned this on the Kings board, I was to young to remember prime Gretzky but the only player I can remember who dominated the game so effortlessly was Lemieux in the mid 90's (when I was living in Pittsburgh), and that amazingly after everything he went through with his back and cancer.

The Kings are such a well-oiled machine defensively too, that is what makes his total domination of LA even more impressive.

The Oilers are just plain loose in their own zone imo. Blame Skinner for a couple but when the opponent has two players with the puck 12 feet in front of the goal and they are uncontested, you’ve got more than a goal tender problem.

Taking their foot of the pedal for the Oilers was just an astoundingly stupid decision. Not even Bruce "The Turtle King" Cassidy will do that against the Oilers.

If the Kings didn't learn from that mistake then they deserve an exit.

yeah, re the skinner discourse and someone earlier who mentioned kings didn't really have that many chances:

That game was an obvious shitshow. But.. the smoke has cleared. We lost a 1 goal game in the final minute of regulation. Congrats to LA but that is about as close as it gets and I'm not shitting my pants over a 1 goal loss in the final minute.

The d coaches probably have a few videos to review though.lol

Not a bad way to look at it. While the Kings did end up winning, the Oilers very much planted a seed of doubt in their minds by being able to come back from a 4-0 deficit.
