He was. Skinner's xGA are inflated thanks to plenty of 5 on 3 time for the Kings. 5 on 5 Skinner's stats are twice as bad.

What's this? PK stats matter, especially for goalies.

It makes sense to back out to 5v5 play when you are evaluating regular players, it's a more natural game state, and some guys only play PK (disadvantage), others only PP (advantage).

It absolutely makes ZERO sense to back out PP and PK when you are trying to assess how well (or in this case not very well) a goalie played. He's trying to stop ALL the shots, regardless of what game state. Shots against on the PP for example, are almost always 2on1 or breakaways... by definition the highest danger of high-danger. Shots against on the PK... goes without saying those are difficult.

Why would you back out the toughest chances against when trying to determine if your goalie helped his team or not?

Damn...cashed out a 5 leg parlay prior to puck drop. Had Edmonton plus 1.5 but took the sure money. Oh well.

Skinner is horrible. Not winning with THAT thing in net.

Was that the goal where there wasn't just one Kings player wide open in the slot, there were two of them? They seemed to both go for the puck simultaneously, but scored anyway. Bold defensive strategy there, maybe they were hoping that by leaving two guys open in the slot they would accidentally play defense against each other?

Yep that was the play.

Hopefully the Kings don’t sit back and let McDavid drag Edmonton back into the game. Hopefully it was demoralizing to McDavid to still lose after carrying the dregs back into the game.

A lot of my worry was not being able to solve Kuemper but that's now gone...

I don't think he's the guy that posted a 96% on the Oilers all year

BUT

I also don't think he's the guy that posted an 80% last night

It will certainly bear watching going forward though, that was a very unusually unfocused performance by Darcy. Usually seems like he does better under seige rather than worse.

It’s crazy work though to have arguably the greatest player of all time and you don’t think to upgrade from Skinner. Make that make sense. No one on the oilers scares me… but that McDavid guy can solo an entire group. That shit is scary.

MMORPG terminology. Connor McDavid is the equivalent of going back to previous expansions' raids and soloing them well above their intended level. Except the raid bosses represent the entire opposing team. He's just that good - he's well above their level.

Conclusion: McDavid is cheating by being over leveled and needs to be removed from the playoffs for the sake of fairness. :sarcasm:

He’s ruining the competitive integrity of the game and should be banned for running scripts. It’s like how in BG3 the entire storyline is so dark and layered then you have Gale with c4 strapped to his chest that can destroy the entire universe if chose to do so.

The Kings got caught a couple times getting to tight on McDavid.( Kopitar & Gavrikov) They need to stay between him and the net or they are in trouble.Tough to blame goalie on some of those setups .I agree with you about those stats you posted. Hit the empty net it's all moot.

Hate to think it, but Edmonton should win this

Game 2 is huge. If the Kings win, they are heavy heavy favorites because even losing 2 in EDM makes it best of 3 with home ice, and a split they are in complete control. If they lose they are in trouble because then you need a split and the Kings have been ass on the road.

The Kings are 0-6 in games following a win, and 0-5 in games with a chance to go up 2 games in the series.

2022

Won Game 1 to go up 1-0 ---> Lost Game 2
Won Game 3 to go up 2-1 ----> Lost Game 4
Won Game 5 to go up 3-2 -----> Lost Game 6

2023

Won Game 1 to go up 1-0 ----> Lost Game 2
Won Game 3 to go up 1-0 ----> Lost Game 4

2024

Won Game 2 to tie series 1-1 ---->Lost Game 3

The Kings need to get away from their chosen identity and exploit the Oilers major weaknesses in goal and on defense, they did that for 40 minutes last night, and then they went back to the style they had played the previous years.

The Kings aren't going to hold the Oilers to to 2 goals, even 3 is going to be a big challenge if they play 97 and 29 as much as they have in the past when the Kings threatened them. The Kings need to attack, attack, attack.

It will forever boggle the mind how Edmonton hasn't addressed their goaltending. Skinner can be good, but he's so widely inconsistent it's just not a viable option. And yet here we are trying it one more time. It's just mystifying to me.
Oil don't have the assets to trade for a goalie. They would either have to overpay for a goalie which is risky or lowball and hope somebody bites.

Verbeek mentioned that he got offers for Gibson at the TDL but none of them were good enough and I have to imagine the Oil were part of that group.

The Kings won Games 4 and 5 in 2022 after getting blown out in 2 and 3.

It's genuinely incredible how good McDavid is. Best player ever. The creativity, driving the net, passing, rushing, shooting.

Been watching almost all of his games since his rookie season, and even a good amount of his junior games, hell -- even saw the kid playing in the GTHL and YSE. That might have been his best game last night. Complete domination.

What was Oilers management thinking they were ok rolling with Skinner in net? It seems like everyone knows Stewie is a massive sieve besides the people that actually run the Oilers. .896% SV during the regular season, a pathetic .800% last night and sub 900 in his playoffs career. Pretty evident to everyone this guy is NOT the answer. Teams like the Avs made moves to address shoddy goaltending, clearly the Oilers could have as well... running with Skinner was a choice, and boy what a choice it's proving to be.

After fumbling the Broberg/Holloway offer sheets, getting rid of McLeod, Foegele and getting much older and significantly slower, they also double downed on stuart Skinner as starter. How can an organization be so incompetent in miss-managing two of the most dominant players we have ever seen? :help:
