Exactly what's the average speed NHL games are played at? Who are the fastest skaters and what speeds have they reached in past competitions? Maybe someone can compare an NHL skater to a Olympic 100m sprinter.

Bolt running vs. Hagelin skating 100m straight line.. Hagelin would win.

Maybe not Hagelin but a speed skating champion. It's actually pretty close on the first 100m, afterwards it's where the skaters have a huge advantage.

Bolts world record time has around 27 MPH average speed.. Hagelin clocked about 30 MPH avg speed in a skill comp with cornering.. So id bet on him to win a straight race.

If I got my math right that is.

Bolt ran 100m in 9,58 and while the 100m is not a discipline in speed skating, i think the fastest is 9,37 for the first 100m in a 500m race, ran in speed skating skates with detachable blades. So the question might be - how fast would he ran if he was not aiming for 500m but for 100m, and I think - not really faster because unlike running the 500m skating distance requires much less stamina, so it might be safe to say he went almost as fast as he possibly could. Add this to the specialized skates - I think Hagelin would be quite a bit slower than him in comparison, and surely slower than 0,21s to be faster than Bolt. So I'd bet a lot of money on Bolt in his world record form.

100m would be Bolts ONLY chance due to acceleration but even that he would lose to some of the top NHL skaters (especially if they're not wearing equipment). The average speed on some DISTANCE skating is around 30mph for WOMEN. Some of the fastest skaters have clocked at around 35-37mph about 10mph faster than Bolt runs.

Average skating speed in the NHL is much slower. I wouldn't be surprised if it was around 10-15mph average. Its not a sprint in most cases.
