I'm curious if Drury has any sort of plan for guys like Hajek or Gauthier. It seems like both are without a role here.

Gauthier specifically, to me, still has some potential to be a middle-6 power forward winger. His p/60 of 1.7 last year given his limited minutes is actually a pretty solid number considering who he was playing with most of the time.

To put this into a bit of perspective:

Morgan Barron just played is 22 year old season where he put up 10 goals and 21 points in 21 games in the AHL.

Julien Gauthier in his 22 year old season had 26 goals and 37 points in 44 games in the AHL.

Is Gauthier waiver eligible? Worried he's going to be waived or given away because we have so many extra players..

Really hope he gets a shot with the new coaching staff

The new coaching staff claims they're big on guys playing definite roles. That means Gauthier isn't going to supplant a Blais, Reaves or Goodrow in the bottom six. And he's not going to supplant a Kakko or Kravtsov in the top 6. So I really don't see a spot for him, provided the coaching staff is true to their word about roles.

Miller is still learning the defensive game, but he was also a regular penalty killer on one of the best units in the league all season. He took a step back later in the year, but not a massive leap back, and a good amount of that was to be expected anyway. With Trouba and Lindgren hurt he was playing a lot with Brendan Smith at the end there. Only so much you can expect from a rookie, and at an early age, his size is almost a disadvantage as it won't cover him to near the same degree as it did as an amateur player.

My feeling is that Miller is more likely Fox's partner for a decade than traded, especially in order to make room for Robertson.

New York Rangers: Nils Lundkvist, RHD, Lulea-SHL
Lundkvist has been excellent in the SHL and Rangers fans have been awaiting his landing in North America. The Rangers have two excellent right-shot defense prospects in Lundkvist and Braden Schneider, to go with Adam Foxand Jacob Trouba already with the big club. In the short term, there might be a spot for Lundkvist, but he and Schneider will need to be so good that they force the coach to play them on the off side. That picture should become a bit clearer once camp wraps up.

Lundkvist can play the left side.

yes he is waivers'vulnerable', no longer exempt ( to me, 'eligible' kinda makes it sound discretionary)

i am optimistic that the new staff gives every opportunity to impress
no team breaks camp 100% healthy, so that also can help him stay as camp ends

this talk of guys like Cuylle or Othmann getting in some (<10) games, before return to Juniors, does carry with it added risking of waiving guys during roster cut-down

but i do think Drury could trade from his young cusp guys like Gauth, Hajek, Reunanen, Ronning,
to thin active contracts, and contention for ice-time in NYC or AHL

Buch just posted a video of him skating on his IG story… still wearing Rangers stuff :(

Conroy was a two-way center. Sillinger and Prospal each had great speed. I’d take any of those in their prime over Strome.
Sillinger too, Prospal being thee most comparable, and his effort was sort of useful on D. He was also more of character--NYR still without that MZA/Kaspar -type.

His second half fall off is greatly exaggerated. It’s interesting how patient some are with Kakko but once Miller makes a mistake people are quick to call him out for being a low IQ player
Miller had about one egregious ef up per game, a wiff on a pass, a wiff on a shot. He was too soft on the puck. No one else on the team came close to blunders like that. Additionally he got caught flat footed way too often and his offensive zone ability seemed to take a hit as well. Let's not mention net front presence or along the boards play.

In his rookies season Kakko looked bad too, some of the worst metrics in the league, and no one hides that fact. Kakko was way better last year though, let's hope Miller makes strides this year as well.

The Rangers have 8000 LD prospects why would they need Nils to play the left?

and I would have taken Jimbo back on a PTO for old times sake

Nils and Schneider have higher upsides than Robertson Jones and TarmoTime

So I think the idea is gun to your head if you want to keep the cream of the crop you shift one.

That said, there are cost prohibiting factors to have star players on your third pairing, so you could conceivably see a scenario where Robertson is kept over Nils just for the reason of a lower AAV on a long term deal. If Nils has a great rookie campaign his trade value goes from good to great.
