Speaking for myself it's his one dimensionality and the way he started (a month or so) the season was ABYSMAL... like if you played me out there that's what I would look like.

He's soft on the puck and while he clearly has skill, having him on the halfwall of PP1 drives me nuts.

Strome has no business being on the right wall on the PP. That's not something I blame on Strome though. The coach is desponsible for that.

IIRC he's actually a pretty good power play guy but again I think a coach in these situations needs to look at how to not just see the game directly in front of him but the future of the team and stiffing guys like Lafreniere and Kakko some PP time needs to change. Maybe just one of them gets on PP1 but one of them really does need to in order to help develop them

More that he is a pretty "vanilla" player and despite very good play there is no path to redemption for him on these boards

Honestly I was impressed with his improvement last year after a terrible start where he spent most of his icetime standing around waiting for Panarin to do something.
He got off his ass and started making things happen and probably played his best hockey after that

But again, contract situation and concerns about being too easy to play against (true or not this is the feeling I get from the Rangers for some reason) probably mean he's not a long term part of the Rangers. I don't mind going into this season with him, the only real reasons to "upgrade" would have been to nail down someone in that spot longterm for a decent contract and maybe get a more north south player

If the Rangers have decided that Zibanejad is not the guy for them, I'd seriously consider re-signing Strome. If they have decided to keep Zibanejad, then Strome, to me, is redundant. Both guys feast on the PP. Neither is amazing in the defensive zone. I'd be really cautious to give out (on the low side) $13-14m to those two guys collectively.

I don't have a problem with Strome.

I do have a problem with the thinking that his numbers can't be replaced by the guy that's lining up at the 3rd line center position when everything he does relative to his TOI speaks that he can ABSOLUTELY replace Strome's production.

Additionally, when you take Strome off the PP and insert LaFreniere there (and at this point, you HAVE to do that) Strome's value to this organization is negligible at best.

for the same reason Buchnevich was moved, Strome will will be as well. The sooner the better as it will allow guys to settle into their new and upgraded roles and responsibilities.

Strome should NOT be getting PP time over Alexis

You can’t have 2 centers like Mika and Chytil and then the guy between them is allergic to two way hockey. Just can’t have it. Strome isn’t a fit here. We really needed a Danault IMO that would have been ideal.

This is the only reasonable take on why to trade Strome. You need a 2-way center on your team. The only issue our center depth has, is a lack of diversity. They're all offense-minded centers.

I don’t think Mika is worth $9M or whatever to be an offense first guy, which is really what most metrics indicate him being at this point. Just don’t see that as being a smart decision RE cap allocation that will lead to a Cup.

Random thought but I would welcome back the Fox Puck Tracker. Caveats. Needs to be an option on a smart tv or web broadcast. And it has to be less intrusive. The original one was massive.

I loved it as an 11 year old newcomer to hockey. Now, with everything being in full HD it's not as necessary, except maybe along the nearside boards blindspot. Us vets can follow players movements and reactions to know exactly where the puck is going but lots of newbies lose sight of it and then have trouble finding it even when it's out of the blind spot.

I would like to see the streak trailing shots, as even current cameras don't have the FPS to show the puck on shots. Either you see the net move a bit from the puck hitting it, or the players reactions, to know it went in.

Most importantly I'd love shot speed shown instantaneously in the corner somewhere.

Dog days, ive been off the forum for a little while -

I read some article yesterday and it mentioned the Eichel talks are heating up again? At least regarding LA? Any truth to this?

Has nothing to do with Strome.

Also put a decent LHS on that group and its probably #1.

The unit has performed much worse without Strome. And I disagree putting a LHS there definitely makes it better. It might make it worse if they then want to set up the LHS more than setting up Panarin/Zibanejad who are the two best shooters. It would totally change the entire structure of the powerplay. And I doubt there is anything they can do that would make the unit better than the McDavid/Draisaitl combination.

I agree. Strome was a better option then Blackwell on the PP. SMH Quinn.
LaF or Kakko have to be a staple on the first PP
