Great to listen to these guys. I found it especially hysterical how AK kept interrupting Edge

I think the big thing against strome is that he's just not hard to play against in any way really
Panarin is crazy sneaky and skilled, Zibanejad is big and fast with a lethal shot, Strome is...pretty skilled but not scary so, doesn't skate really fast, doesn't dangle, is opportunistic but not super sneaky ninja style, and not physical at all.
I don't think it's a huge coincidence that his line gets shut down when other teams play them close. That's not ALL on him (Panarin can't keep expecting the pull up along the boards and hit the trailing player with a long cross ice pass to always work) but Strome kinda doesn't bring any extra sauce to the mix, he just kind of slots in.
And yeah the contract thing is another big one, if he was signed for a good deal for another 3 years then whatever. But he's not and the Rangers will have to be looking at ways to keep the production up and cost down on that 2C spot.
e: and that's all why people are more interested in seeing what Chytil might be able to do...he's younger, cheaper, bigger, faster, etc etc. You think "maybe he can be molded into a good 2C that we can sign for a good deal through his prime"
Strome does certainly deke and is strong on pucks. I get he isn't a super appealing player but his body of work, including point totals when Panarin was out, speaks for itself. He is a very versitle player who is still getting better and can score. On the comparisons to Zibanejad, Panarin, Chytil... hmm what does those 3 have in common? Oh yea...
More that he is a pretty "vanilla" player and despite very good play there is no path to redemption for him on these boardsStrome is innocent victim of bias against North American players…that’s a next-level conspiracy theory for sure
Conroy was a two-way center. Sillinger and Prospal each had great speed. I’d take any of those in their prime over Strome. Why are there no more Prospals, Conroys and Sillingers? Prospal, in particular, was very similar and typically was underpaid by about three or 4 million all his career.
In fairness, Buchnevich finally became a 1st line player 8 years after we drafted him so in this scenario the hypothetical player would be popping after our current window - much like Buchnevich himself did.I guess you have to gamble on what would be more valuable to a hypothetically Cup-winning roster, the experience of a first or second round loss, or the chance at drafting another Buchnevich who could pop during your window?
It's true. Strome is actually good and he grew tremendously as a player since coming here and even without Panarin he is a legit second line player. It's funny how we all fall over ourselves as trading a player who was a former 6OA pick and finally put it all together here.Strome was tremendous without Panarin last year, and Panarin has put up career numbers playing with him.
Some of you all just have an agenda at this point. It's as bad as the anti-Rozsival stuff was back in the day.
Not all Buchnevichs age the sameIn fairness, Buchnevich finally became a 1st line player 8 years after we drafted him so in this scenario the hypothetical player would be popping after our current window - much like Buchnevich himself did.
If he were the follow the same career arc as Buchnevich, he's a regular in 2026-27 and peaks in 2028-29.I guess you have to gamble on what would be more valuable to a hypothetically Cup-winning roster, the experience of a first or second round loss, or the chance at drafting another Buchnevich who could pop during your window?
To be fair, when dealing with a lag you really have to steamroll a bit because if you don’t you end up in an endless cycle of “go ahead”, “no you”, “whoops”, “sorry, go ahead”.They did spill it. Video Conferencing, Web Conferencing, Webinars, Screen Sharing

I liked that comment - to a large extent - for all the mouth-watering ice cream imagery.I think the problem with Strome is emblematic of the larger problem this team has been trying to overcome, which is just having a “sameness” to the entire forward core. We have more than enough offensive punch to not worry about a 10 or even 20 point dip at one position, but we haven’t had more than (maybe) one forechecking beast at a time. More than one guy who you would genuinely call physical. More than a couple of guys you might genuinely call good defensively. We shook that up a bit with adding Goodrow, Blais and even Reaves, but with center having been our weakest position and Zib and Chytil being fairly similar style wise, a very vanilla guy like Strome isn’t what the recipe calls for. That and, of course, being loaded with younger guys who will need big money and having commitments to Trouba, Bread, Kreider and likely Zib to consider.
There’s nothing “wrong” with Strome. Strome is like… Bryer’s vanilla ice cream. It’s a classic. A staple even. If this team is an apple pie, Strome is a scoop of Bryer’s vanilla. It goes fine. No one is gonna complain. But if you replace that scoop of Bryer’s vanilla with homemade salted caramel gelato, your apple pie can transcend from a perfectly adequate, if not memorable dessert to one that people are talking about for years after the fact. That’s what we need. We need a salted caramel center. Sure, there’s other players who would be a clear upgrade, but honestly a Barkov, Couterier, O’Reilly type is what would really elevate this team.
A guy like Eichel is a clear upgrade in talent, but it’s like swapping plain Bryer’s vanilla for a Ben and Jerry’s chocolate chip. It is an upgrade. It’s better, but it still doesn’t make the dessert one you remember for the rest of your life. What the team really needs is a DIFFERENT center. Someone who is at least middle six quality but plays with some sandpaper and makes a difference in three zones. Someone you could plausibly argue, while not lacking offensively, actually makes their greatest contributions away from the puck. That’s what the team is missing. That’s really about all the team is missing.
Exactly. Good player. Good guy. Decent roster fit, if not exactly what we want from a middle six center. But also probably going to cost too much for us. If he had three more years on his deal at $4m we’d love him. Well, i would. It's true. Strome is actually good and he grew tremendously as a player since coming here and even without Panarin he is a legit second line player. It's funny how we all fall over ourselves as trading a player who was a former 6OA pick and finally put it all together here.
However, I do see the issues as far as roster building, cap and his playing style. Its definitely a tricky situation because Strome IS legitimately good and he's not old and he fits well. I do have serious issues with his 2 way play and effort defensively although I think he was better in this aspect last year.
I think this year will actually tell us a lot and see how some of these guys all fit in Gallant's system. If Strome and Chytil both look good and we can do it cap wise, there's a solid argument to lock up Strome for maybe 4 years and roll with Strome and Chytil as your 2c/3C for this next contending window.

This to me sounds like a real possibility. He just had a baby, I think he would give up a few million to stay and build with this squad. Strome is gonna get locked up I think for $5M per for 3-5 years.
If that happens, ( which I’m against) you can kiss chytil goodbye come the offseason. If they have strome/Zibby locked up as 1-2 for multiple years, 3C is going to be more of as a defense first matchup/ shutdown guy.He just had a baby, I think he would give up a few million to stay and build with this squad. That is just not true. He was great last season away from Panarin. It doesn’t make any sense even if it’s a big discount.
you can’t play him anywhere aside from with panarin and he isn’t good enough at anything other than not dragging Panarin down.
I’m not even married to the idea that Chytil needs to play on a “top 6” line. I do think we need to upgrade from strome. He isn’t diverse enough of a player and away from Panarin I doubt he’s good enough offensively to justify his existence.
Plus he’s going to eat PP minutes from someone.
How many teams out there can get 80 points from their #1C, 60 from their #2C and 40 from their #3C?If that happens, ( which I’m against) you can kiss chytil goodbye come the offseason. Hopefully Barron is able to fill that role internally, but no way they are keeping 123 Zibby strome chytil. There’s not enough different styles to compliment the other lines. Stromes game against good teams is what worries me the most. If we’re trying to get to the next level, spending more money on strome who is a offense first guy like Zibby is going to put us behind the 8 ball a bit.

Trade i saw on CapFriendly this morning:
Larkin, Greiss
FOR
Chytil, Kravtsov, Robertson, Georgiev, Hajek, 2022 1st, 2022 2nd.
To which someone commented
"This is the kind of overpayment that would get us interested.
There are a few minor problems with what you're offering though. Hájek is not a good fit, we already have 8 defenders for the upcoming season, replace him with Karl Henriksson. Robertson is a LD and we already have a glut of prospects on LD, replace him with Nils Lundkvist.
If you do those two changes I'd be prepared to think long and hard about giving up Larkin."
I.e.
Larkin, Greiss

Chytil, Kravtsov, Lundkvist, Henriksson, Georgiev, 2022 1st, 2022 2nd.
like wtf
Speaking for myself it's his one dimensionality and the way he started (a month or so) the season was ABYSMAL... like if you played me out there that's what I would look like.Nobody will ever say Strome is perfect, but as a 2nd line center he's more than capable. The desire some fans have to drive him out of town is baffling to me.
