Well, you’re not referring to me. I just don’t want to see him leave for nothing.Nobody will ever say Strome is perfect, but as a 2nd line center he's more than capable. The desire some fans have to drive him out of town is baffling to me.

It’s not just about the points. Strome does more then fine in that regard. It’s everything else. Face offs, defense, taking spot away on 1PP. If strome were signed for 3 more years at 4-4.5 mill there would be an argument to even keep him. At the raise he’s going to want he’s just not in the teams plans. It’s pretty evident in them going after Danault and being tied to numerous other rumors with other centers. At this point he is also blocking chytil from a 2C spot to see if he can handle the role.More Strome takes
Who's replacing his 49 points in 56 games right now?
Unless we're going to get Eichel or to a lesser extent, Hertl, you're just spinning your wheels..
Why wouldn’t he make the team? He’s probably the 3rd or 4th best dman in our system right now.
So Is the 2 year ask for Larkin. You would think he’s a bonafide PPG player, while playing solid D and a beast in every situation. I have no doubt he would help us going fwd, but YikesThe 1 year ask for Hertl on the main boards is silly
I think it’s two things: fans want the security of having their roster and favorite guys signed long-term. But Strome is a guy who isn’t in that long-term situation. (Approaching UFA and also not quite good enough to get signed longterm). Fans in general dislike those guys. ‘If he’s not gonna be here long-term, trade him for futures’ is the thinking. The front office can’t afford to think that way, of course.Nobody will ever say Strome is perfect, but as a 2nd line center he's more than capable. The desire some fans have to drive him out of town is baffling to me.

I used to think he’s at best a good 3C but I now think he’s a bit better than that. Particularly on our team with some great wingers.Listen, do I want Strome as our #2C going FWD?
Not necessarily BUT he has certainly held his own since he's been here and I will never get the bad wrap he's gotten on here.
He's actually an extremely smart player so unless you're getting a clear ""upgrade"" then you have to keep him.
Stop with the fantasy trade proposals already..
"This is an overpayment, but not enough of an overpayment to my liking"Trade i saw on CapFriendly this morning:
Larkin, Greiss
FOR
Chytil, Kravtsov, Robertson, Georgiev, Hajek, 2022 1st, 2022 2nd.
To which someone commented
"This is the kind of overpayment that would get us interested.
There are a few minor problems with what you're offering though. Hájek is not a good fit, we already have 8 defenders for the upcoming season, replace him with Karl Henriksson. Robertson is a LD and we already have a glut of prospects on LD, replace him with Nils Lundkvist.
If you do those two changes I'd be prepared to think long and hard about giving up Larkin."
I.e.
Larkin, Greiss
FOR
Chytil, Kravtsov, Lundkvist, Henriksson, Georgiev, 2022 1st, 2022 2nd.
like wtf
Every season there's a new complaint about Strome
2018-19: His shooting percentage is too high
2019-20: He just benefits from playing with Panarin
2020-21: He only scores against bad teams
I wonder what it'll be this upcoming season.
Strome was good this past season, I thought. Is effectively playing in all 3 zones as a Center should, a legitimate criticism?
Asking for a friend.
The limited improvement Hertl brings over Strome isn't worth what it costs to acquire him. If they want Hertl, just sign him next year.
I used to think he’s at best a good 3C but I now think he’s a bit better than that. Particularly on our team with some great wingers.
I’m fine with Strome as 2C - or ‘middle six C’ - but he’ll probably be priced out of our range after this year.
I agree. I think there’s a decent shot he takes a team-friendly deal to stay. Either, say, 2-3 years. Or longer but with substantially lower AAV.Ideally I'd like to see him as our #3C but he's really a very good player and like you mentioned, with the right wingers, maybe he exceeds expectations in a real system?
That is going to be the big difference this year, (a structured system)
Since he's bounced around the league a bit, maybe he'll sign for a reasonable contract?
I guess we'll find out..
Bingo. Two years is about as far out as my brain can handle. Beyond that it’s a waste of neurons.
NHL - can’t move a player from wing to center. Way too difficult.
NFL - can take a player who had never played football in his life, start him, and watch him turn into a player worth 60M
Are you talking about Strome defensively in the 20-21 Season? Because he wasn't terrible, but he was not "good".Strome was good this past season, I thought.
He puts up points. That’s important. But he is not a responsible center at all. He is a one-zone center.Strome was good this past season, I thought.
Nah, these are horrible reasons to not love Strome.I think the big thing against strome is that he's just not hard to play against in any way really
Panarin is crazy sneaky and skilled, Zibanejad is big and fast with a lethal shot, Strome is...pretty skilled but not scary so, doesn't skate really fast, doesn't dangle, is opportunistic but not super sneaky ninja style, and not physical at all.
I don't think it's a huge coincidence that his line gets shut down when other teams play them close. That's not ALL on him (Panarin can't keep expecting the pull up along the boards and hit the trailing player with a long cross ice pass to always work) but Strome kinda doesn't bring any extra sauce to the mix, he just kind of slots in.
And yeah the contract thing is another big one, if he was signed for a good deal for another 3 years then whatever. But he's not and the Rangers will have to be looking at ways to keep the production up and cost down on that 2C spot.
