Carolina has to give him a QO of 6.1m next summer if they don't sign him to an extension. And why would Kotkaniemi sign for less if he has either a 6.1m QO coming up or the opportunity to go the UFA route at age 22, signing with whoever he wants?

Because the money he will get on a multi-year deal, even if the AAV is lower, will almost certainly be more than 6.1 mil. If they offer him 6 mil per for 4 years, he's going to take it. If they offer him 1 mil per for 4 years, he's not going to take it. So there is a line between those 2 points where a deal will be acceptable. Exactly where that line is will be up to Kotkaniemi, assuming of course that he doesn't break out and become worthy of a 6.1 mil AAV. If he does that, I'm sure Carolina will have no issue giving him the QO.

Regarding social media followers. Back in 2010 when I was GM for a hotel in Iceland, I managed to get over 30.000 domestic followers on Facebook. That was around 10% of the entire countries population…

So, youuuuu're the guy that was distilling all that illegal bathtub Brennivín, in the hotel basement.

Noice.

While I do think Kotkaniemi might have some issues with how he has been treated, that's an offer sheet you sign every day of the week even if he loves it there. That's probably 3 times what he would've made based on his play.

Of course it is, it was designed that way. Everybody agrees Kotkaniemi is still raw and a project. The Canes clearly see potential and a good fit for their young core. The Habs is a huge franchise that does not handle missing the playoffs well. They need a much more mature and ready player than KK and don't have the time and patience to wait for him.

No interest in Hertl. He's 27 and has 1 year left on his contract. How much does he want on his next deal? Can we afford to re-sign both Hertl and Zib? Probably not. Doesn't make sense.
His output is also not much more than Strome’s. At the very least, it shouldn’t take a 1st as sweetener.

With the makeup of this team and the contracts coming up and the ones we have i think our 2c or atleast the person that replaces Strome, needs to be on an entry deal to be honest. I dont see a way we have say Zib at 9 mill or Eichel at 10 and our middle 6 centers making 8 or 10 mill and be able to fit Fox, Laf, Kakko, Panarin, Miller, Chytil etc etc under a cap. I still believe Hayton is a perfect target of a guy you could buy low maybe and know he can work with Lafreniere if nothing else. Everyone talking about Dvorak and for me his biggest plus is his contract, so i could see that working.

People need to stop looking at only point totals when evaluating players.

I'd be very, very weary on Hertl because of his history with knee issues, but he's a way better player than Strome. There is more to hockey than not dragging Panarin down.

It’s also not even important because Panarin will just make whoever he plays with better. People are way too focused on the chemistry with Strome

People worrying about Mika aging poorly ( not totally off base) but wait until those Hertl knees hit 30 plus.

I’m with you, I don’t think Hertl is a good idea either. This is most likely they year to find out if chytil can handle the brunt of 2C duties. If not, I think both him and strome are gone by the start of next season.
Between strome and chytil cap hits, plus what we have available you should be able to see
Zibby ( 9-10 range)
Upgrade (6-7 range)
Barron (ELC)
Rooney/UFA (1.5-2.5 range. Unless Richards takes it on an ELC)
That’s the most realistic possible top 4 C if chytil fails miserably this season

Kotkaniemi ...can we get in the middle of this? Of course Strome plus going back for the 1 year of KK? Can Montreal immediately trade him?
