Yup. Toews has had the luxury of one thing the Sedins have never had: secondary scoring.

Ha, Actually Toews is secondary scoring for the Hawks, or at least has been for most of this nhl tenure.

Toews position in point scoring on the Hawks:
2007/08: 3rd
2008/09: 3rd
2009/10: 3rd
2010/11: 1st
2011/12: 4th
2012/13: 2nd
2013/14: 3rd

Sedins positions in point scoring on the Canucks:

2006/07: 1st and 2nd
2007/08: 1st and 2nd
2008/09: 1st and 2nd
2009/10: 1st and 2nd
2010/11: 1st and 2nd
2011/12: 1st and 2nd
2012/13: 1st and 2nd
2013/14: 1st and 2nd

Toews over the Sedins is hilarious, Toews is great and clutch but he's nothing without Kane/Keith/Hossa and great supporting casts picking up the slack. Sedins are the core by themselves(were) with Kesler having 2 great offensive years and they've been depended on to provide offense to get teams into the playoffs.

This debate seems kind of silly to me. The Sedin's and Toews play a different style of game. One of those games is better geared towards playoff hockey while the other is not. If we were entering a 7 game playoff series I would easily choose 1 Toews over 2 Sedin's every time. There is more to a game and success than just point totals and Toews' resume speaks for itself. I see a lot of people making posts about this topic based on emotional response rather than common sense.

yup

toews will go to the wall for you and then break through that wall. and i just can't see marchand jabbing toews the way he humiliated sedin in the finals either.

anyway, it really is apples to oranges and a matter of personal preference for types of players. the sedins are wicked regular season performers and used to be top-notch PP point getters.

but toews scores and wins when it counts.

2012/13: 5th (so clutch)

Sedins Playoff Scoring

Impressive playoffs or impressive series Vs. the Canucks? Didn't he get the majority of his points in that one series? I mean we all know how padding your stats in 1 series can make players seem more useful then they actually are... Or at least that's what has been attempted to be drilled into our heads after the SJ series. What were Toews stats if we dropped his most productive Series? :sarcasm:

Must be nice playing on a team where the secondary scoring is so great that he can disappear offensively for games at a time & he isn't feasted on by his fan base.

Oh come on, you know that only applies to the Sedins. You can't possibly apply that logic to Toews.

Does anyone know where I can find that Team Canada presser with Babcock and Yzerman after the gold medal game? I've seen clips of it but can't find the full video anywhere.

that's what the misconception about toews begins...he's not known for his scoring. he's known as a wicked two-way center who probably does more in the defensive zone than he does in the offensive zone.

don't get me started on bergeron. he's a stud too lol

So yeah I don't doubt the value of both Toews and Bergeron. Just that when people are labeling Toews as one of the best players of the world, I would expect more offense and he has barely reached PPG so far. He is young and there is still room to grow, but until he gets to like 90+ pts and still play selke d, I don't see him as one of the best in the world.

This needs to be reiterated over and over until people realize how important the Sedins are to this team and how pathetic the rest of the lineup is in terms of offensive output. Clutch by definition implies that you don't show up for several games and then contribute to a key play/goal. If the Sedins don't show up for a few games, the series is over because there is nobody to pick up the slack. Hard to be clutch when you have to show up every game to give the team a chance to win (the Nashville/Kesler series is probably the sole exception).

we have 4 more years of this point being reiterated to us over and over.

can't wait.

If we do decide to "rebuild", then the Sedin's won't hurt us. We'd have a roster full of young guys so the cap becomes negligible. The only issue is we have to trade them when they can still return some value. I think there's a year or two before we have to make that call.
