One thing of concern for me is if you push out Clifford and Simmonds we have some very small and soft wingers in our top 12. I don't know how but we could sure use a big top 6 winger for the playoffs. I think our defense is set if Sandin gets signed but I'm not sold on our top 12 forwards mix wise for the playoffs. Hopefully Knies is ready or? What is it we are missing to make a dent in next years playoffs?

As far as defense I think if Sandin and Liljegren play more it helps us. We may need to drop Holl to bottom pairing.

Thoughts?

Cap hit ouchies.

We need a big body that uses it in the 2nd line, a 4c that can PK, and probably some more snarl in the bottom 6
I agree but with our current cap hit I think Kerfoot has to be moved. He is RFA and it makes no sense letting him walk for zero. Everyone wants to move Muzzin but with that contract I don't know if there will be any takers.

P.s - Kampf is a great p.k. I'm not sold on Gaudette for the playoffs.

We go with 12 forwards on the roster and use Robertson as the top call-up, Clifford would be next in line to help make up for the lack of grit.

Bunting - Matthews - Marner
Kerfoot - Tavares - Nylander
Engvall - Kampf - Jarnkrok
Simmonds - Malgin - Aube-Kubel
ex. Robertson and Clifford

Anderson > Clifford/Blackwell
NAK > Simmonds
Jarnkrok > Spezza (except faceoffs and maybe PP).

The only real downgrade is Mikheyev to Malgin/Marlie.

Anderson and NAK are more useful grit than Clifford and Simmonds. We have a 4th line which is actually playable and can cause some damage when our top 6 is not on the ice. Seems like a win to me.

Is Nick Roberson replacing Ondrej Kase?

Mikheyev and Kase contributed 36 goals 24 assists 60 points last year.

Mikheyev only played in 53 games and Kase in 50 games.

Are Joey Anderson and Aube-Kubel capable of handling the heavy weights and fights for the Leafs. Not sure I like their chances going head to head against Corey Perry and Pat Maroon 4th line.

(Aube-Kubel and Simmonds move up and in if/when a trade occurs with Clifford becoming a spare forward). Hope that a farmhand or two (Robertson, Steeves, Anderson, Knies) can steal a spot or two from a lesser light as the season rolls along.

I see where they can gamble and play Clifford and Simmonds at times reg season but that top 12 doesn't look as good as last year's overall. Kerfoot , Holl and prospect for Crouse if him and Arz part ways?
Kerfoot might still be traded but for futures.

Leafs are currently $1.5 mil over the cap and if they re-sign Sandin for approx $2 mil that puts them $3.5 mil over which just happens to be Kerfoot's cap hit.

Nine of our forwards should be obvious. Matthewa, Marner, Bunting, Tavares, Nylander, Kerfoot, Engvall, Jarnkrok and Kampf.

Any of Robertson, Anderson, Malgin, NAK, Gaudette, Clifford, Steeves Abruzzese, Holmberg and Simmonds will be battling it out for the other three places on the roster.

To Start the season it'll be something like:

Bunting-Matthews-Marner
Kerfoot-Tavares-Nylander
Engvall-Kampf-Jarnkrok
Malgin-Simmonds-Aube-Kubel
Anderson

Anderson and Malgin because they're both waivers eligible and past acquisitions by the GM. Not Robertson until an injury because he's waivers exempt.

It's been a really disappointing summer. Blind Back Pass is still here. Engvall was treated like a high value commodity . The lone significant forward addition is another lousy playoff performer.

I love”d” Wayne Train, but if he’s actually back now it’s just another failure to fill out the roster with a viable alternative.

It certainly isnt inspiring. Weaker than last year.

That’s what happens when you have no cap and are forced to shop at the dollar store every year to fill out the rest of your roster.

2022-23 it's going to be marked up canned soup, off-brand snacks imported from eastern Europe, a small jar of dodgy capers and batteries from a brand you swear used to be an appliance manufacturer.

Anderson and Malgin because of waivers concerns.

This is a bad allocation if cap dollars with Kerfoot as 4C

Trade Kerfoot and sign a ZAR or a Rodrigues or both. Gaudette could fill on the 4th also.

Simmonds and Clifford will clear waivers and get called up throughout the year. We add a bit more toughness and grit at the TDL once we confirm we need it
