While getting lunch last Thursday I heard Porty say the CBJ front office wants to sure up the defense before the season starts.
He said that they have discussed a deal with the devils.....

NJ gets Cam Atkinson. NJ looking for scoring.

CBJ gets ERIC GELINAS defenseman. CBJ will only go as far as the defense takes them.

Thoughts?

This sounds exactly like what the last six months on the trade board has discussed.

Might as well discuss Ryder, Halak, and a 2nd.

I don't remember hearing this but I do know Porty has repeatedly put Atkinson in all his rumors

Atkinson kills impressive flow of the puck created by the master and his apprentice. In the latest pre-season game against Pittsburgh Atkinson one time actually returned the puck, only for both Hartnell and Wennberg to be caught completely off-guard by the action.

He isn't first line material either. So that leaves counter-attacking duty as his assignment.

I think that trade would be quite the feat even for the great Jarmo Kekäläinen.

I don't think it would hurt our wing depth. I don't especially care for Atkinson's game and Rychel and Bourque would do fine if given the minutes.

I also don't care much for Eric Gelinas, who doesn't so much "shore up" our D as give us more mediocre depth. So there. I suspect you can find a GM out there who'll give you more value for Atkinson.

Atkinson is kind of our default expendable winger. Gelinas is pretty much the best bet for a return from NJ. This might become more and more feasible with a guy like Rychel or Karlsson pushing for a spot. Has the benefit of freeing up some cap space.

I doubt it, but he's a young big body with some offensive ability.

If this did come to pass, I would think Atkinson would be worth a bit more than that.

Hold on to Cam. Two 20 goals seasons in a row.

Love everything about this kid's game and personality. Feel like he'll pot 25 goals this year and I'd prefer it be rocking union blue.

Pretty much this. I am meh on Cam but even meh-er on Gelinas.

I literally have no idea what you are trying to say here... :help:

He's saying trading Atkinson for Gelinas would be a coup for Jarmo. Because Cam gums up what Wennberg and Hartnell get up to and because he's not first line material either, leaving him as a 3rd line winger.

Whew...I thought it was just me

In European context puck is the tool or mean of power. Some use it even to defend themselves and their team. Some men just want to watch the goal light burn. Usually there is one common goal, one for each side. How you reach it varies.

I agree with misters Dano, Richards and Atkinson that the rare combination between Hartnell and Wennberg needs some straight-forwardness inserted on the side, in to the play itself but too much, too soon puck shoot-shoot happens with Atkinson.

Cam Atkinson is young & he is an improving commodity. I would not trade him straight up for Gelinas. NJ does have some dmen that I would like to have

Severson or Larsson but they aren't parting with either of the RHDM so I would say lets look out of conference for a better dance partner or go with what we have till we get closer to the deadline.

I trust Jarmo to put the work in on this subject, though I haven't personally liked the Wiz or Gabby trades. He made up for it with Saad for Arty, though Dano and change will likely out peform Paliota

My issues with Atkinson is that he's a very one dimensional player offensively. He's a on-the-rush transition player. Beyond that there really isn't much to his game in the other two zones I find all that compelling.

If he could get better in the offensive zone when we've established a solid forecheck I would be much happier.

His overall production is quite borderline as a second line player. Having said that he does score a lot of game winners.

As far as the comment that's he's improving? He didn't progress last season. His season was pretty much identical to the one before it. I certainly didn't see much difference in the three zones. He's a pretty decent player, but I can't say that he improved last season.
