SNNOW Premium - Habs’ game replays

Hi all,
I’ve been going crazy trying to figure this out. Thought I’d reach out here on the Habs’ forum to see if anyone has experienced anything similar.

I‘m subscribed to Sportsnet Now Premium to watch the Canadiens. I’m in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, and Montreal is considered out-of-market (I’m in the Leafs’ region so I’m blocked from their regional broadcasts on TSN), so I shouldn’t have any issues watching Habs’ games. I can watch the Canadiens live on my Apple TV but I’m not able to watch replays of the game afterwards for when I miss the game live. When I try to watch a replay of a Canadiens’ game I get this message: “Playback Error; An error occurred. Please try again later. (4194817)”.

I’m able to watch any other game replay with any other teams. What’s even more frustrating is Habs’ game replays will work on my iPad, but not on my Apple TV where I prefer to watch.

I’ve chatted with Rogers tech support and they have not been remotely helpful. If anyone has experienced this or if you have a solution, please let me know :)

Honestly sounds like the error might be coming from Apple TV. Maybe try to talk to them?

Damn, I hate it for our neighbors up north for this very reason. Here we can get ESPN+ for basically pennies and can watch any game, live or replay, anytime we want.

I am not sure how to correct your issue, but if there is a game you want to watch the replay of, you can let me know and I can replay it from my ESPN+ account and give you a link.

I did think last years for a few members here for the Draft Selection.

I'm having this exact same issue, and I have been having it for ages! I'm an Edmonton fan watching in BC, and I cannot watch on my AppleTV because it always gets playback errors. I can watch on any other capable device connected to my TV, such as my xbox, but it's absurd to me this issue isn't resolved. It's just one app and one platform, but AppleTV is a popular device, and Sportsnet Now is the only legal streaming provider in Canada for the NHL. It's all the more ridiculous by the complete lack of support options.

It sounds like an appleTV thing. I have SNNow on my Sony smart TV and I can watch everything, include habs/flames when they play here in Calgary and I know game is on local cable station.

I have a Samsung upstairs (so can't install SNNow on it) so I got a $40 firestick for it and same... works great.

I actually managed to fix the issue for myself by following the instructions of this community post, talking about fixing issues due to playback error. I did all three steps in the order listed, but it was clearly uninstalling and re-installing that fixed my issue. After re-installing, I was prompted with some privacy intrusion regarding ads (classic), forcing me to opt out of sending extra data in addition to what they take. Only after going through this, did the stream now work just fine.

So basically, because my app was out of date and they didn't patch it properly, I had to re-install so they could harass for more data, otherwise the stream couldn't work.

SN Now is far and away the poorest streaming app available in Canada. The media cabal is probably going to succeed in pushing me back to cable just for sports.

I found the stream quality improved lately. In the beginning of the season I often had quality no better than 480p for a period of time... or on an off... depended on a day and a game. But last few weeks I am pretty I've been getting solid 1080p without any hiccups. Of course, now that I said it, it will go to shit again.

But yeah... cable companies suck anyway. F them.

If you have Bell internet call and ask for their app. It's 20 bucks a month and you get sportsnet and tsn along with other channels. You need a smart TV, or a chrome cast, fire stick, etc for to use the app. You can't download it on xbox/ps.

Sportsnet was charging me 50 bucks a month to not be able to watch the f***ing games I want.

I'm using a PS5 with SNNow Premium and I'm not having the issues described in the OP. I do suffer from poor quality playback occasionally. I think this happens when I'm slightly behind live or caught up to live by FF through commercials. It's possible that in replay mode the app is reading from the hard drive while the next frames are still being saved. I find that if I'm more than a minute behind live, or switch over to the live feed, playback quality improves.

I am so pissed off with them as I can’t watch the away feed (or not that I’ve found), we’re paying the same for a worse product, I’ve emailed and sent Twitter messages and guess what no answer, their customer service is on a par with Air Canada
