A really great article about Slava Voynov from three people who knew him at various levels. (Two coaches and a teammate)

This is a great insight into what makes him so special and not just his talent, the insatiable drive that pushes hm.

A really really good read.

Lock this guy up Deano, he's gonna be a stud. Talent, hard work, discipline, desire, competitive, smart. All of it.

From the article:

He always attended practices, never skipped. He may have missed school, but never a skate. If school was cancelled, he was at the rink right away skating with some team. He is one of those who has never missed a practice. He loved practice, he was hungry for them. He did everything you’d tell him to do. You show him an exercise, he’d get it right away. Some would need to be explained multiple times, but this one got everything right away.

If anything, Slava has been one of the most consistent performers in the playoffs. Last year you could see a bit of an adjustment, but this year you'd have to argue he's been our best defenseman.

Read this right as Chesnokov posted it. So awesome to hear that Slava has wanted to be in the NHL for a long time and that he's always had great work ethic. There's a reason I fell in love with this kid a few years ago. Just so good as seems like such a hard worker.

A poor man's Lidstrom? Still laughing at Pen fans in the trades board -- we have no need whatsoever for Voynov -- we have all the defense we need.

Show him the money! Y'know, the more I think about it, Slava isn't too far off from being as good as the player he idolized -- Sergei Zubov.

Offensivly Voynov is better than Doughty, but Doughty's better defensivly right now. Slava's will get stronger in his own zone, but he should be paired with a stay at home defensemen. Lombardi should give him a long term deal now.
