Don't think he is worthy of Norris consideration, but damn is he good. Best Kings dman this season easily.

Not a chance, no matter how good he plays, he will always be in Doughty's shadow to the media. Which is good for us when it comes to the contract

God these threads scare me lol. Just no lol. Please i just feel its bad luck the less we acknowledge it the better :naughty:

Doughty needs to ****ing step up. We'd have our own version of the 2007 Niedermayer and Pronger.

Doughty has been playing great, goal or no goal. I love having him, Voynov and now Muzzin. I had hopes for Ellerby but he just reacts too slowly and takes dumb penalties.

Question about his contract. How come he's already a RFA after his sophomore year?

He's not he spent 3 full seasons in Manchester. And we have gotten even this much time because he was drafted at 18 and didn't move up for more than 10 games so we got the 2 extra slide years.
So he is actually on the 5 year of his EL contract.

Ellerby is still young and frankly was rushed into the NHL by the Panthers it seems ... everyone from Lombardi, to Coach Sutter, on down knew what they picked up, a young D-man that was still rough around the edges, who had potential, but who would need time being properly coached and develop and brought along into our system (and the West Coast style of game play as well), a kid who could grow with our core D guys (Doughty, Voynov, etc) yet be a stop gap while Greene & Mitchell are down, a kid who maybe if all goes well could replace one of Mitchell, Scuderi or Greene when they move on or retire. Muzzin has turned it on the last 2-3 weeks or so, but he was almost everyone's scape goat and whipping boy prior to that, and that included the fans from Manchester, most who I think said Muzzin didn't even belong in the AHL, let alone NHL ... about the only one who stood his ground on Muzz was Tonellisghost, who's looking to be a GENIUS right about now ;) ... I say cut the kid some slack, and give him time ... long term I'd rather keep Ellerby over Drewiske, and I think that's Lombardi thinking too. But what do I know ? :)

It's hard to fathom that this kid is a sophomore in only his second season in the big leagues. He's just too composed for someone with his experience and age, it's remarkable. Sure, sometimes he has his ups and downs, but I love how smart of a player he is and plays bigger than his size.

I'm not saying this because he's Russian, but he reminds me so much of Zhitnik in how he can go up against bigger opponents and handle himself just fine, and can also lead an attack and connect with tape to tape passes. I hope he's rewarded with a nice long contract and that he's kept around for a very long time.

I'd love for him to be more open. He's such a quiet guy and that's probably because of his English. I don't remember the last time I heard him talk. Oh well.

watch out.. doughty's only a -2 now.

meanwhile Muzzin leads the kings Dmen w/ 5 goals and one behind the leaders in the nhl with 6.

i'm diggin that muzzin and voynov are picking up doughty's slack. Just wonder how dangerous this team would be if Martinez and Doughty start playing to their offensive potential.

Sure doughthy's still playing a nice game, but he's definitely not playing norris $$ worth.

You can tell that the drought is in his head and he's gripping a little too tight. Hopefully he gets a lucky
goal somewhere along the way to snap him out of it.

While we're talking about D, I feel like Scuderi is slipping a bit with his sharpness.

Young minority, can't really blame him. He will find his voice soon though :)

A key reason Muzzin is scoring is because he is playing with Drew. There is a reason he has so much room out there most of the time, it's because of the respect DD commands.

It's not that DD is slacking, it's that he's playing a very different role. He doesn't jump into the play anywhere near as much as he does with WM on the other side. The fact that he's still on a 40ish point pace (regular season) while concentrating more on defense is impressive enough. That's not even taking into account that he is burning loads of ice time, much of which is during the most difficult situations in games. Right now, he's one of our top defensive defensman (if not the best), and is our most punishing hitter on the back end by far. If he had gotten a few bounces on goals this year, he'd be in the Norris conversation for sure.

Good point about Muzzin getting the chances because he's playing with doughty, that's one of the reasons i always hated Doughty playing with Scuderi, is that scuderi would be sooo wide open and would do absolutely nothing with the puck besides scale it down the boards, even if he was wide open to take a shot.

but with as much PP time doughty's getting, and all the chances that he IS creating for himself, for him to have ZERO goals tells me that he is snakebit. I think even he himself would admit that he's gripping the stick.

and with regards with him being the shutdown guy, i would slightly disagree, i do think he's taken the role more seriously, however when DD44 is in the line-up, if you look at the last 5 games he's been in, Doughty is 3rd on the team with PK minutes, Scuderi averaging about 3, Drewiske about 2:30 and Doughty about 1:30.
Sutter views our "7th Defenseman" as more of a shutdown guy than the guy we're paying over 6 million.

I also could be a tad bitter because i drafted doughty in all of my fantasy leagues, and he's done nothing for me.
