Skin breakouts and chinstrap?

Might be a weird question, but here goes...

I've noticed my skin is breaking out suddenly, right around the chin area. I haven't changed makeup, cleaning products, sunscreen, etc. but the one thing I have started doing is playing hockey. I'm thinking maybe the chin strap and all of the sweating I do when wearing my mask might have something to do with it. The problem area is exactly where the chin strap is and the parts of the face where the mask is the most in contact with the skin.

It's not like I've been having breakouts for a while - as a 40-year old woman, my skin has been pretty stable for a long time, the teen-age years have been over for decades.

Does anyone else have this problem? How do/did you solve it? I try to just clean really well but maybe there's more to it than just that.

I used to get that once in a while when I played in high school. I used to just wash it out with hot water.

Could you try cutting a sweatband, laying it out flat, folding it length wise and sewing the edge (making a long tube and then sliding that over the chin strap? That would give you a softer, more absorbany material against your skin.

I don't snap my chin strap on my helmet because it annoys me and I don't know how to sew but that was just an idea I had that might work.

I took off the chin cap and just use to straps going from the shield (bauer concept 2 full shield) to the helmet. I hate stuff touching my chin.

It's the rubbery kind of chin strap - it's right on the very bottom front part of the chin.

I will try the sweatband thing - that may help.

My husband suggested I may also be having a reaction to the materials in the strap. I have had latex allergy issues in the past (granted, it was a long time ago and I haven't had problems in a while), so perhaps it is a sensitivity thing.

What kind of cage is it? The nicer cages in each of the brands generally have nicer chin cups in them. If its a Bauer for instance, you could look to replacing it with a chin cup from a 9900 cage (or just change the entire cage) which has a nicer cup in it.

Or, go the other way. I just just a basic foam one in my cage so there is no rubber or something like that which may cause a reaction.

Has anyone tried the Shock Docktor chin cups? The claim to have an anti-microbial lining that protects against chin rash. For 20 bucks it might be worth a shot, I break out pretty bad from my current one.
