At first, it sounded like he's a Pavelski type of do-anything-to-score scorer. But, sounds like he's in the mold of the other N.A. munchkins with some dangle.
Alex Young hopeful to be back on NHL scouting list - RMOToday.com
“Alex is a guy that always rises to the occasion. He goes to Russia and he’s the player of the tournament, he goes to the prospects game and he’s player of the game. He is such a dynamic player and he doesn’t rely on anyone else to do his work,” said Eagles head coach Andrew Milne.
Last season, Young was included on the NHL Central Scouting Players to Watch List after a hot start to the season, but was taken off the list about two months later. The day after being taken off the list, in his next game Young scored four goals.
One of Milne’s favourite qualities of Young’s game is his versatility. He said Young is an adaptable player and can commit to playing whatever type of role is needed, whether it be a speed game, a physical game, or a skilled game.
NHL Draft: Alex Young - DraftGeek
Along with the scoring, Young plays with a lot of quickness to his game and combines both his foot speed and stick handling better than the majority of players in the AJHL. However, even with his quick tempo game, Young shows good patience on the puck and doesn’t often rush his decision making. He finds the open ice for his teammates and puts them in positions to succeed on the ice which has resulted in a career-high 36 recorded assists this season.
Overall, Young displays multiple layers of offensive potential with his vision, stick-handling, and goalscoring presence. Whether he hears his name called or not at the NHL Entry Draft this summer, he’ll more than likely be back with the Canmore Eagles in 2019 and should surpass the 90 point mark in his third season in the AJHL.
