I haven’t seen him have one good game this season.

He cannot make a pass. Not even a simple one.

There has to be a left-handed Marlie better than him at this point .

He is killing this team.

Update:

Now elite according to you the fans.

Donkeys,

Stop coming at me. I already corrected my comment weeks before the playoffs.

He was struggling for a little while. He changed. He's helped this team. He was playing a lot better before the playoffs. I'm happy for him, and I applaud ANY player that helps the team.

He's been one of the worst defenseman in the NHL this season

The Leafs have 15 pairs who have played 50 or more minutes this season. These are the bottom 5 pairs by xGF%:

11: OEL - Benoit
12: Benoit - Timmins
13: McCabe - Benoit
14: Benoit - Myers
15: Benoit - Tanev

Insert "always has been" meme.

Decent #6 dman, what do you expect?

This thread sounds like it was started by Shanahan, ignoring the obvious problems.
I really dislike it when people come into threads claiming that "there's a bigger problem". So go ahead and start your "Matthews is a horrible captain", or "Rogers is losing millions" threads.

Do you have something to day in Benoit's defense?

Benoit is a decent #6 dman, what else is there to say.

To say he hasn’t had one good game , is just ridiculous anyway

Yea, I hear you OP. But in the playoffs you probably go with your top 4 and use the bottom pairing sparingly. I think that's what most teams do. There's no great D men in the bottom pairings of most teams in the NHL. We are lucky we can probably use 5 D, and Benoit can get 10-11 minutes of ice time per game.

I went to a game in person. I haven't seen every leaf game this season. I'm not saying he's never played a good game. I just noticed that every time I tuned in and pay attention to him he's losing puck battles, gving the puck away, or making a terrible pass. He was much better last season. He needs to be better than a Marlie and he's not right now.

I've actually liked him since we traded Timmins.
Timmins has 1G 2A +7 in 4 games with PIT so far, which obviously isn't sustainable but maybe some day the Benoit boosters will look back and realize that Timmins wasn't actually the problem on that pair. Case in point:

He's reliable defensively, blocks shots and boxes out well. Hits and very physical that way. Willing to fight.

He's also our #6 dman which is so far and away from the problems with this team right now

He does a lot of that cause he is in his own end a lot.

You also said McMann isn't an NHLer over Reaves at the start of the season.

Which makes trading lily for peanuts cause he doesn’t gel with benoit stupid when you could have traded benoit rebuilt lily value then traded him instead just bad gm’ing if we’re being honest
