Hyman had 5 points in his last three Leafs playoffs combined. Likeable guy, but not exactly a clutch postseason performer for the team though.

imagine thinking of keeping Hyman over Nylander Lmao.

and why are we posting a tweet from Shawn? the guy Sens homer and chirps/trolls leafs every chance he get.
lol even Paul hendricks hates him

Nylander was a no-show in game 7 only scoring after it was out of reach.

The entire team including Nylander disappeared for game 7 against Montreal.
I didn’t talk about game 7 only though, Hyman had 1 fake point in 7 games..that wasn’t good enough from him

He’s doing much better this year

He was so healthy last playoffs too.
Healthy or not, in the last three playoffs he’s had what 5 points? That wasn’t gonna cut it

Like I said before he’s really turned it around this year and I’m happy for him, but this isn’t the Same guy we got in the playoffs

Hyman was playing with a torn ACL, and was still digging in the corners taking hits.. we're not winning because we don't have enough players playing in that mindset.... Plain and simple! We have all the skill in the world, top 3 in the league all season, season high in points for the franchise, and a large portion of our roster..... Yet we lose again in the first round.

Plain and simple.. we didn't have enough players with Hymans mind set against the Habs... This year when we bought into that mindset we won or put up a fight, but it wasn't consistent enough.. points weren't the problem this year, we got atleast 3 past Vase every game. They fought and showed they wanted it more, Nylander again only showed up when he wanted to, most of his points were after the game got away.

This post is just classic HFBoards

1) Claim a skill player has zero "clutch"

2) Attribute "clutch" to a gritty player who put up 3 points in 15 combined playoff games while playing alongside Matthews, Marner, Tavares in multiple years.

3) Make up a set of scenarios that never happened. Hyman tore his ACL in 2019 vs Boston, he was fine during the Montreal series. Nylander score late to make it 2-1 in Game 7 with a minute left, the team was listless but they were still in it at that point.

4) Propose some trades that actively make the team worse because you think big ugly gritty players are more clutch despite actual evidence to the contrary.

Can you guys give me a line to your drug dealers please? I was thinking of trying some new hallucinogens and you guys all seem to have a line on some primo stuff.

We didn’t lose cuz of Effort or grinding

We lost cuz of execution and finishing: two things hyman clearly lacked

Hyman was not scoring in game 7, go watch the highlights from last year, Marner spoon fed him chance after chance and yet he still couldn’t finish

We need a skilled power forward for either line and bunting can play the other wing

Replacing Nylander with Hyman only makes us lose in 6 as we don’t win game 5 and nylander tavares didn’t openly cost us any games

Zach Hyman's playoffs career with the Leafs:

32 games, 5 goals, 8 assists - 13 points. His linemates in those 32 games: Tavares, Marner, Matthews, Nylander.

You: He's a clutch player!

This year he's broken out and congratulations to him but prior to that, he was not very visible in the playoffs. If you want to give him a mulligan for the 2019 series where he played with a torn ACL, that's makes 25 games, 4 goals, 7 assists.

The only reason he didn't get criticized was because of his was under $3 million back then and the fanbase rationalized could as a grinder and any points he did get was a bonus.

I would have liked to have had him back tbh even at around $5 million, but you're making up things that rival the wildest hallucinations I've experience while on DMT.

Hyman provides a ton of intangibles that Nylander is missing including defensive awareness that can help the team even if he isn't scoring. If Nyander isn't scoring he's a liability.

Come on bruh he was literally on one leg in 2019 too, and you’re going to present stats straight up like it’s representative? I don’t get it, let’s be fair about it. Context matters.

Here's a thought.

You need a team with both a Nylander and Hyman.

The Nylander is the harder one to find.

Bunch of idiots trying to build this team I swear.

Hyman shows up to play every game. You can't say that about Nylander.
And Nylander has been a PPG player in the playoffs over the last two seasons, you can't say that about Hyman (or Matthews and Marner). Hyman is a great player and every team can use a Hyman. Saying that, I can only imagine the godly numbers Nylander would put up with a guy like McDavid.

If you want to take Hyman over Nylander for the playoffs that's fine. That's your prerogative. Leafs still get eliminated in the first round if you swap the two, and honestly it probably doesn't even go 7.

That's hardly a reason to single Nylander out then since it was the entire team falling flat

Oh but don't you know? Nylander should have willed the team past Montreal, why else does he have a letter on his jersey? Oh wait, I mean that's why he's getting paid an 8 figure dollar salary... Oops that's not true either. It is for two players though.

It's hilarious.

Core 4 is the only reason we get to enjoy hockey and dominate in all things not round 1.

There's 8 other roster spots people. What's wrong with you guys. Fill them up with your Hyman types, whose stopping you?

I liked Hyman but at that price, you let him walk. The issue is really the top 2 or 3 are making 10-20% too much. Got to compensate in your bottom 6 somehow. No easy solutions here. I would have dumped Nylander when he held out. But he really hasn't been the problem. Trading him alone won't fix this.

It's little wonder to me that so many of the ex-Leafs flourish with their new teams. Kadri, Hyman, Moore, Brown, even Colton and Barrie are doing better. Somehow, it seems to me that the coach and management team didn't get the best out of these guys. Dubas' ridiculous overpayment created a situation where he couldn't afford to a pay an elite 2nd tier or decent goalie. He has defended his core through 5 failures. Unfortunately, the way this team is structured, it has peaked and gone as far as it can go.

The question is, if we do keep Nylander, whats our strategy in 2 years? How do we sign UFA Matthews and Nylander the same year, and then have enough money to match UFA offers on Marner the year after? Someone please answer this for me... Dubas is bluffing when he says hes rolling it back..

Bingo.

Right now Kadri > Tavares on a much better contract. In that world the leafs can re-sign Hyman and strengthen the bottom six with a true 1A goaltender.

The Tavares signing and Kadri trades were a disaster. All because management didn't like Kadri cross checking the Bruins in the playoffs. Do you think the Bruins would have traded a player for being over aggressive in the playoffs? Not a chance.
