It's possible. Dubas inherited Babcock. Trotz doesn't have the reputation of being a huge dick like Babcock.

I blame that on coaching, myself. Did Keefe NEVER realize at any point in this series that the refs were going to call shit on the Leafs no matter what, so they should stop worrying about avoiding penalties and just play their game? I don't think he did.

He should have expected tons of calls since he said the series would be violent. Keefe should have just kept his mouth shut.

I actually think of the Leafs problem as being more of a Lamborghini Diablo trying to run the Dakar Rally. It's a beautiful machine and extremely expensive but not really built for purpose and can't handle the rough off road and endurance stuff that is the NHL playoffs.

These conspiracy theories are absurd. Ask yourself who decides to do this? Is it Bettman on his own? Or the owners (but that would be just the US owners correct)? And are the owners unanimous in agreeing to this? How does it all work, do the refs get paid extra for this? How many refs have been involved with games with Canadian teams? What are the odds of everyone keeping the secret? What happens to the league's reputation if this is exposed and is the risk worth the reward?

Dubas and Keefe have been running the Leafs sort of like hockey’s answer to a tech startup. So I dunno maybe you just need a fresh voice and different insights to take the next level.

That's not entirely true. Varlamov and Sorokin are very good and even Greiss played well when he was there. You have to remember, along with Trots you get Jim Korn who is the best goalie coach in hockey. He would do wonders with Campbell.

Goalie coaches dont work if you are fundamentally flawed. They tweak here and there but they dont turn you into a starter. If that was the case everyone just get a medicore goalie and hire the best goalie coach. Goalie is the most important role in the team

Pekka Rinne would have been Pekka regardless who the coach was.

Goalies switch teams all the time, they dont take their coaches with them. Why dont their game changes then ?

I like Keefe but Imo you upgrade at every position when you can and I think he's an upgrade over Keefe.
When he went to Washington I wondered if he would stifle the caps offense and how he would get along with OV, and he did stellar all over.
On the island he took mediocre and gave them some decency.
With our team and talent I think Trotz would be tickled pink to have a true #1 two-way centre and the rest of this lineup. His matchup game and in game management is top notch.
I only see upside here.

Here’s the bottomline, next year in the playoffs there will invariably be another “here we go again“ moment. Do you want to turn around and see the same face that you associate with failure or hear and see something different that suggests it isn’t the same at all?

Im sort of proud of the team, they fought hard, but you can’t come back with the same expression again and again, something has to change and that’s why I’m all in on a Trotz or someone else. The core isn’t going anywhere, bit pieces aren’t enough, Keefe has had his chance, a Trotz is an intriguing alternative.

I actually agree with this. This roster plays pretty good defensively (AM's 2 way play, Mitch on the kill, etc), which was a big issue with Trotz and Barzal.
