Should we ease up on the Ovechkin praise?

What is the point of this article really?

He bashes Ovechkin for taking credit of something that he didn't pay for, and then praises him in the end for all the money he spends on charities and all the time he spends with his young fans.

We've basically covered this and the general consesus is everyone wins, who cares how.

If Ovie personally started buying items for everyone who needed them, he'd be broke pretty fast. It spiced up all star break.

As a Canadian writer, this person is no fan of Ovechkin's - having called him "classless" in the past. Nativist and emotional is a poor combination for someone aspiring to become a sports journalist.

Considering how much flak he is getting for basically doing something nice, just imagine the outcry if he did something bad...

I don't like Ovi as a player. As an ambassador for the game though I think he deserves more credit. He's one of a few great outspoken personalities in the game.

Also, Crosby skipping the all-star game is a joke.

Actually expected the criticism for Ovie being hammered

We should instead criticize Doughty for an uncalled and embarrassing remark towards Shattenkirk

Or Getzlaf for that snipe about "Jonathan" Tavares.

Everyone in the room for the fantasy draft appeared to be hammered, lol.

Jeez, I thought this was going to be about his play. There is nothing to criticize him for about the All Star Weekend. If you don't feel like outright praising him for it, whatever, that's your choice.

Only Ovi can donate a honda to a family with a down syndrome child and get flak for it.

Sure, he clearly isnt close to his once "best in the league" label. Hes not even a top 5 forward IMO.

Well that's a minute of my life I won't be getting back. The person who wrote this article is pathetic. Ovi did a good thing and we should be praising him and continue to praise him. Honda gave him a free car, good on them. Would he have rather Ovechkin turn down the free car and instead pay for it? People find new ways to bash him everyday, not surprised.

Sure, he donated a car to a family in need... But didn't you hear? He had the nerve to be praised for it!

:sarcasm:

Wouldn't it be nice if all rich athletes were as generous as Ovi?

I don't say this often, but that is a terrible article. Ovechkin is not obligated to donate anything to anyone. He does, and gets criticized.

I heard a friend of a friend say that hockey is the bottom of the barrel for personality. And it's no wonder why when people get slammed for having one.
