1 year, play Garand a bit, if he's ready deal Halak at the deadline, personally think Garand needs more time.

Dunno. But I gotta say, that Lilljegren goal (#1) has to be in his top 3 weakest goals given up in his career. To boot, it put a lifeless team back into the game.

It’s impossible to develop a backup goalie. That’s one spot I’d always hand over to a vet. So I’m very happy with Halak. I’d be happy to have him back.

Absolutely not. I'll take one good year at 35 or whatever. Not one day more.
He was quite risky for this year, but goalies can age well. Next year now, no thank you.

UFA goalies who played 10 games or more this season according to CapFriendly.
There's some other options to Halak, but nothing jumps out that will likely be in our price bracket

He's still...fine. Had some stinkers like last night, but overall did a good job as backup and maybe even stole us some points. Hard to find a backup who does more than that.

Give him a 1 year deal. 775k base salary, 725k performance bonus based on games played.

We get a solid backup on a minimum cap hit, he gets roughly the same money as this year, and if we can't afford to pay off the bonus in next year's cap, it will roll over into the following year when the cap should be significantly higher.

Garand shouldn't be anywhere near this team unless there are injuries. He's not ready. Let him outplay Domingue at the AHL level first before we think about making him the backup in the NHL.

It's always worthwhile taking a look at what's available. Looking at the UFA market there are a bunch I think might be an improvement over Halak as a backup. A couple like Adin Hill or Alex Lyon might cost more than Halak does now which would effectively put them out of the affordable range. Here's a few that might be interesting who likely would be affordable---Alex Nedeljkovic is going to take a much cheaper deal to prove himself again. Laurent Brossoit om Vegas. Anthony Stolarz big goalie playing for a bad Anaheim team. Hunter Shepard--yet to play an NHL game but he's put impressive numbers in Hershey the last couple and Hershey's become a top AHL in the meantime. Jonas Johansson in Colorado--not much NHL time this year but again impressive numbers in the AHL. Both AHL goalies are 27.

Not an expert, just based on looking at numbers and asking my gut, but I feel like Stolarz would be a great fit.

Stolarz will be 30 next year. He's huge but it's also not like the Rangers haven't shown some interest in very big goalies as in recent draftees Ollas and Boyko. Stolarz also grew up I believe in the NYC metropolitan area. That might be another reason for thinking about someone like him.

Yeah. I do suspect Stolarz looks for a spot where he has a better chance to start or at least play more. And he’ll probably be a little more expensive than Halak. I feel like Halak comes back on a cheap incentive-laden deal.

Cam Talbot turning 36 in the summer, crap, time goes fast.
Talbot would be another good option. He’s basically Halak three years ago.
