I mean Slovaks had to start from the bottom too and it was just because pf the nature of their very recent inception.
Let's make them wear funny hats too!
It's cool that everyone wants to punish Russia these days, but this is a foolish notion that needs to be put to bed and forgotten about. Never mind that once the IIHF decides to reinstate Russia it isn't going to start by humiliating them, there are a whole whack of other nations that the federation needs to think about. They're not going to put Russia in a tournament with UAE or Thailand because it wouldn't be fair to those countries either.
A) The decision to allow the Czechs to hold Czechoslovakia's place and treat Slovakia as if it just parachuted in from Mars was a mistake. It was also 30 years agoWhich country deserving of promotion by actually earning the said promotion do you deprive of promotion then?
It wasn't fair for Pool C teams to face Slovakia either. But that's what actually happened.
B) Promotion/relegation isn't a perfect system. Austria and Latvia got phantom promoted to the 2022 championships; so some countries are going to miss out. And the world spins on.
Slovakia started at the 3rd level. Not at last. Here is what Slovakia had to do .. and none of it was their fault. They didn't go to war on anyone. They got invaded, released and relegated 2 decades later.

They had to beat Bulgaria 20-0 to start.lol

Probably because there were 8 teams in the 2nd tier. It was more comfortable to start Slovakia in a 6+1 group.
Slovakia's story begin in 1968 when Soviet tanks rolled in... lot of stories began after that invasion. All of them bad stories.Slovakia's story more had to do with new countries entering the IIHF in those years, therefore their treatment was more or less in line with how other new member countries were treated. For example Latvia wasn't even allowed to the C Division (lowest division at that time iirc), they had to first fight for their right to play there in a regional tournament with Lithuania and Estonia and only after that they were allowed to play against such countries as North Korea, Israel and Belgium (obviously not only them, but still).
It's a graphic.. not sure what you are arguing?Slovakia started at the 3rd level. Not at last.

That would be really fun for Team South Africa to face off against Russia. Would be just stupid to have them even in the 2nd division let alone the lowest. Nobody has fun winning or losing 70-
I meant Slovakia as an IIHF member, it wasn't before 1993 if I'm not missing anything. Btw, was Slovakia a separate country from Czechia in 1968 too? I somehow thought it was already Czechoslovakia at that point, but my memory isn't perfect.Slovakia's story begin in 1968 when Soviet tanks rolled in... lot of stories began after that invasion. In 1968/69 the country became a federation that consisted of the Slovak Republic and the Czech Republic. These then broke apart in the early 1990s. During the Czechoslovak era Slovakia played more unofficial games against regular national teams before 1968 though.Btw, was Slovakia a separate country from Czechia in 1968 too? I somehow thought it was already Czechoslovakia at that point, but my memory isn't perfect.
