Should neck guards be mandatory in the NHL?

Yes, absolutely.

Any of these players who would suggest that a neck guard would impede their ability to play like a jock does (I've heard that way more than I expected) are straight up stupid.

*very preventable death

I mean, you can't necessarily say it would've 100% prevented it, but it probably would've given him a much better chance.

Kinda like seatbelts. It doesn't assure survival, but it damn sure gives you a better chance.

So, full face shield/cage?
Also no fighting.

Headers in soccer should be banned.

American football is now two-hand touch or flag.

UFC fighters must wear protective head gear.

Honestly I hated wearing them when I played and it was required, they were annoying and uncomfortable. The recent death was extremely tragic and yes a neckguard would prevent it, but it's also one accident out of millions and millions of hockey games over the years (yes I know there have been other bad injuries from skate blades to neck but all the others recovered I believe). I think it should be left up to the players if they want to or not.

Of course the NHL is strongly recommending it - that way if the NHLPA declines, and a serious injury (or death) occurs, it'd be pretty hard for the player/family to sue the league.

This is going to be the argument that leads to them adopting it the same way visors were adopted, would be my guess.

Current players aren't going to unanimously go for this.

Silly MLB should never have banned metal spikes. Friggin soft league, bros!!!

I mean, if the league tells you you should wear one and you don't by your own choice... They shouldn't be able to sue lol.

That's even more ridiculous than the contact/combat sports athletes who were claiming they didn't know how bad it was to get hit in the head repeatedly. Yes we've taken great strides in understanding CTE over the last 20 years, but even before we had the evidence we all knew repeated blows to the head were bad.
