Should each NHL team have a coat of arms?

I think it would be cool if each team had a traditional style coat of arms that they used as a shoulder patch and elsewhere. They would be both fun and traditional at the same time.

Here are some random traditional coats of arms from Britain (the one on the right could even work for the Anaheim Ducks if you changed the bird). NHL teams could use this kind of design but have local images, sticks, pucks, goalie masks, etc, etc. Thoughts?

They have something like that already, it's called a logo. Lol this isn't medieval Europe, I don't see the purpose of a 'coat of arms' besides vanity. Seems a little silly to me, to be honest.

No every team already has a logo and a shoulder patch.

Hockey doesn't have to be more like soccer. Hockey should just try to be hockey.

So tired of these threads. No to crests. No to relegation. No to giant sponsor ads on sweaters. No to stupid scarves and whatever else people want to import from soccer.

Of the words you chose to use in your description, let's focus on the word "traditional".

What exactly would be "traditional" about NHL teams adopting coats of arms?

Well, the NHL has had ties to the British upper class at the beginning (Lord Stanley, Lady Byng,...). But I mostly meant that it would add a huge amount of class to the game by giving it a dignified, traditional look (while still being fun). Wouldn't the Ducks, Senators, Panthers, etc. look fantastic as a coat of arms instead of a 3-D Disney inspired cartoon?

Nothing to do with that. I don't watch soccer and had no idea that soccer does this.

I would be totally fine with each team having a coat of arms style alternate logo.

It would be interesting to see what the come up with and how does it hurt?

I don't think so... Well maybe it would work if the team's theme fits coat of arms like with the Kings? Although the Kings would probably use a made up coat of arms.

But then again coat of arms could be cool in the shoulder patch, they already use flags so why not coat of arms either?

And btw. hockey already uses coat of arms, Finland's national team uses Finland's coat of arms as our main logo sometimes but it's not a club team so i don't think it counts really, but it is used in hockey too. :P

I don't think it would be a bad idea. A coat of arms for each team could give the NHL some uniqeness (for lack of a better word) compared to other sports leagues, and represent the class of many of the leagues athletes.

I don't mean to pile on, but what makes it "fun" to give each team another logo to wear on their Jerseys?
